your tank setup, are you happy with it?

Most people's fish tanks are a ever evolving process.

It human nature to get tired of the way something looks and change it up from time to time. IMO

I would have to say that I am not totally satisfied no.

I really do not see how I could be for one simple reason.

As my fish grow, I am finding the need to rearrange to repopulate or depopulate as per the fishes community sense.

For example I have a 5 ft 150g that served a good purpose for my frontosa till most recently. I took note that 3 of my ladies have fry and I would bet it is a constant source of food for the tank. With that in mind, I am making plans to split my colony over 3 tanks, the 150g, a 230g and 300g. For I did indeed get that many frontosa for the purpose of breeding them and being able to sell the fry.

There is also the point of predatory fish that are now the size where they can easily fit a 7inch + fish in their mouth and they must be moved to a tank where they are free to swim but not enjoy and endless supply of expensive feeders.

Then there is my sw, which is roughly 8 mths up. Definitely a work in progress and as the tank matures, it is my hope to be able to look at developing a coral angle to the tank.

The final reason why I do not think I could ever be totally satisfied revolves around my fishes well being. I really think that fish are very smart and they do very much enjoy a change in surroundings, if their looking about after a remake says anything. There is also the need to move the sand substrate to make sure that gasses are not being trapped, to do so necessitates the removal of all decor so why not a remake at the same time.

I think aquascaping is nice looking but with the fish I have in my biggest main tank I cannot aquascape too much because of the kind of fish I have as they grow too big and I don't want to decrease the room for them to swim. Also they knock things over all the time especially the catfish and it's a huge hassle for me to reach in there to fix it. I can't really say I'm sastified with it or not but I know I'm not sastified with the size of my tanks as I want to go bigger already...As my fish grows my tanks look even smaller to me....

i honestly love how my tank looks :) i tweak little things from time to time but thats it

overall i would say im content im not happy with my tank

it started because someone said i could keep my frogs i have with fish which i could but it never looked as good as it does now

had i know that this idea was a bad one i would have never done my tank and i would only have rams and somthing with more motion

also less decor i think im still thinking of taking out my volcano but then it just looks too bare,

also insted of telling my fried about the 55 gallon i found for 75 i would have taken it and used it but thats hindsight i guess now i know for a fact how i want my next tank set up and i also have learned more about tanks in the last two months that ever and so now i hope when i set up my last fresh water then my only salt water i dont have to learn like i did with this one

However, since I keep 14 clowns I do need some hiding places in the tank so I have kept a tunnel and some rocks in, but its essentially just that and gravel, see my thread in my signature, it's changed from the first page.

My loach tank is bare too w/ nothing but PVC and a sponge filter. They rarely hide when the lights are on. They only hide when it's lights out and time to sleep.

Bare bottom all the way! :headbang2

No, I have a 3d background siliconed on that I hate now but I don't have anything to keep my fish in whilst I try to remove it so I can paint the back of the tank black or blue.

Every time my tank is set up and evrything is in place, I have to do another water change in a few days and vacuum so I start back over LOL
