Your tank size + filtration

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Tank 15' x 4' x 4', Not set up yet. Will be running two Ultima 4000s with ReeFlo Barracuda Gold pumps for biological filtration, six RTL-100s with ReeFlo Hammerhead pumps for mechanical filtration, 405 gallon sump for redundant filtration, will also be running a Clarity CL3 protein skimmer off the sump with a ReeFlo Tarpon pump. Each Ultima 4000 Barracuda Gold combo will have a 120W UV sterilizer on the return end. One of the Ultimas will actually be returning the water in the sump back to the main tank. Family illness taking priority right now, so the backgrounds are unfinished, as I am not at home much right now. Someday our tank will be finished and set up.

I think you've posted in the wrong section pacu mom. It says "tank size and filtration". You need to go to the swimming pool section. Oh wait, we don't have a swimming pool section. Mods, we need a swimming pool section!

My 125 has an fx6, fx5, and Rena xp3. My 2 40 breeders have aquaclears 70's and my 55 has a fluval 406 and seachem tidal 110.

My 55 has a AC110, my upstairs top 40 gallon tank has 1 AC70 and 1 AC50, my upstairs bottom 40 gallon has 2 AC70s, my downstairs top 40 has an Eheim 2215 and two sponge filters, my downstairs bottom 40 has 1 Aqueon 55/75, both of my 10 gallon tanks have AC30s, my 20 gallon tank has an Eheim professional 3 I think, and my 1500 gallon pond has a DIY moving bed filter with k3 kaldnes made out of a 55 gallon drum.

115: internal, overflow corner filter with ~530 gph pump + Sobo submersible polishing filter (~315 gph) + SunSun 603a pre-filter connected to 18w UV sterilizer (run by a Jebao DCQ-3500 dc pump in the tank, dialed down to about ~300 gph).

325: Sunsun 603a pre-filter connected to a SunSun 704a canister filter (rated ~525 gph, though in reality of course much less), supplemented by an internal Sobo power head (~500 gph) + 15 tray overhead shower/trickle filter run by an internal Sobo ~660 gph pump). Will soon be adding a 55w UV sterilizer but still thinking about how to connect it.

375: internal, overflow corner filter with ~2,640 gph Jebao DCT 10000 dc pump (dialed down about 50%) + big sponge filter + SunSun 603a pre-filter connected to 36w UV sterilizer (run by a Jebao DCP-4000 dc pump in the tank, dialed down to about 375 gph).

New 325 on the way for second Xback Arowana (temporarily in a 88) -- it'll be set up almost exactly like the other 325. Oh sheesh that reminds me, I gotta go order the shower/trickle filter as it'll take about a week and a half to get here! -- totally forgot about that, thanks for making this post and reminding me :)

When in the states, I used 55 and 75 gallon tanks as sumps on tanks in the 100+ gallon range, usually placing them off to the side to make maintenance easier, and allow for 4ft or more tall bio towers.

Sometimes the sumps were 55 gal barrels and used 4ft tall fluidized bed reactor filters, to boost alkalinity

For out door tanks, I often used my ponds as sumps, to help stabilize temps, and where the heavy planting helped use up nitrate.

135g: Not set up yet but will be making a sump out of a 40 breeder.

75g: 30g sump, don't remember the name of the return pump off the top of my head (bought the whole setup used). Will be adding a small circulation pump in the big middle compartment.

55g: Marineland Magnum 350 and Penguin 350

40bs: Sponge filters, and one also has a Marineland 200 that I'd hoped would filter out small floating particles but doesn't.

10g: Tetra Whisper 10i internal filter

Rotating: DIY (if you can even call it that) polishing filter. Marineland Maxi-jet 900, plastic water bottle cut in half, filter floss. Works great if you can manage not to spill all the *&^#^$% back into the tank when you remove it.

Oooh, I like that, I have a powerhead circulating some water in a tank with plants outside that I need to filter. I'm going to see if I can jury rig something like that. :)

Impressive.
I'm kinda underkill with my two fx6 and a 1200lph powerhead on my 300g.
It works fine for me tho.
