your thoughts on kony 2012 video

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They were talking about this on public radio a couple weeks ago. They interviewed some of Kony's victims and they were pretty upset about the video. They felt that the video makes the guy famous, which is exactly what he wants. I can't remember all the details and I haven't watched the video, but they had a lot of other issues with the video. From what they said, the video was not well received in Uganda.

So far the only real feed back. Thing is I don't get it, and I don't mean this in a disrespectful way. But what is actually going on. I've not seen allot of sources, this was a first. I was first exposed to kony stories back when he was still abducting people and now a decade later peeps are like no don't arrest him he doesn't do bad anymore. So he rapes and pillages uganda for decades and they don't want him arrested. I'm so confused. I get that the organization is a marketing and for profit ploy right. But what is wrong with the notion of bringing the guy to justice. The central sentiment of the video still seems sound. Hell if a few hippies get rich and that guy does burn it wouldn't be a bad trade off.

I'm just confused. Most people who posted on this thread make totally irrelevant arguments.

Dan, you were the first to sight any kind of a source. I still don't understand why Ugandans would want kony left alone. Seems their national pride is getting in the way of anyone doing anything maybe I'm wrong I'll have to find the report you sighted.

Spotted in Baltimore a few weeks ago when I was down there for a conference...

Forgot about it til now...

i duno if someone has said this i havent read thru the whole thread but the issue at hand is the idea of sending american forces to another country, which amounts to INVASION by any small stretch of the imagination. Also the government of Uganda is really corrupt so helping by sending in money or what have you them with the idea that they will use it towards capturing Kony is kinda unrealistic. These civil unrest has been fueled by the food/financial assistance 1st world countries have been sending to them and that area for decades. As good as the intentions are, we have to let the Ugandans resolve this issues themselves. By helping them we are actually hindering their development into a self sufficient nation.
