Your Views On Hybrids?

Hybrids should only be made when their purpose exceeds the parents befor. All fish shouldnt be hybridized because that will destroy gene pools. But if you can get 2 parents to have fry with the good benefits of each parents than more power to you. The worst part about this is when people try to pawn them off and people get unknown hybrids.

I agree, I hate it when people play god and try cichlid crosses only to end up with ugly abominations. Only to sell them to a store and make them someone else's problem.


One of the reasons I detest hybrids so much is because of the Amphilophus labiatus and Amphilophus citrinellus hybrids are so common. If you go to any pet store and buy a red devil (Amphilophus labiatus) or a midas (Amphilophus citrinellus) your most likely purchasing a hybrid of the two. The only way you can get a genuine red devil or midas is to buy from a quality breeder now a days.

other hybrids like rtcxtsn or henleixmotoro, im fine with since its "natural"

being tattooed and being a hybrid are two different things

i dont mind hybrids as a whole, some individuals turn out better then others.

If its possible in an aquarium its possible in the wild, this being noted that they are in the same water system.

Im cool with hybrids, as long as they arn't bred so they make it impossible to get purebred species, by looking close to identical.

I prefer to keep single-species fish, but I don't hate on hybrids . . . I think flowerhorns can be beautiful, but I don't want one . . . I think blood parrots are just plain ugly fish, but that's an aesthetic opinion, not a judgement on them

if any of my fish did hybridize - - as my carpintis and convict have done - - I'd keep an interesting specimen or two, but cull the rest

I like blood parrots, but using an example where they have been cruley tattooed, I dont think has any relevence to the question.
(I dont want to argue bloke, just sharing an opinion )

bloood parrots and painted parrots are a completely different thing...painted parrots are injected with dye as fry...that is wrong..but an other natural hybrid is fine
