Zebra Pleco Being Added to Cites

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think they're stunning but they do only grow to a few inches, so I guess its not a monster fish(and i know this is monsterfishkeepers lol) but for smaller tanks, cant complain
I completely agree. In fact if I were to set up a peaceful community tank I would have one if their prices were not so high.

I just bought a small group of these because this was coming.... one of my favorite small plecos and totally stunning... the issue with producing them are multi faceted. I know a couple breeders of them and issue are while they will breed in captivity they are not one of the easier Hypancistrus, combine that with very small spawns (4-8 fish at a time ) and an incredibly slow growth rate all contribute to the high prices...

I'm not a fan of the little pleco but the Brazillian government is full of fish poo poo.
They look cool but the 3 I had were very lazy and boring. I got them for about $35(back in the 90's). Honestly, I doubt I'd own them again even at $35.

I guess to each their own. What are you keeping in your tanks these days?

I have a L001, common and a female bristlenose. The experience I've had over the years is the bigger the more active they were. When I kept the Zebras 98% of the time they never moved...they were like statues in the tank.

To each his own... My 2 favorites are the zebra and l25 scarlet both are endanger of being extinct with the damns being built in Brazil- Zebras can be shy but captive ones are more active then the wild imports of the 90s and as they get more comfortable they even come out in the day light to eat.

Why can't people just put underwater turbines(like air turbines but in water) in the rivers?instead of damming everything to hell?
