yea i know I thought about that.. But then that means I gotta spend a bunch of money buying from someone else lol :grinno:
Think of it as an investment though, I'd rather have quality breeders then your run of the mill convicts...
People are starting to see the lesser quality of zebras that are out there now as opposed to what used to go out.
I'll just have to remember not to buy any from around your part of the woods;)

300+ for a zebra is way overpriced in my opinion. unless you have the money to support that hobby. if you find one for 60 thats like buying a ferrari for like 100 dollars. so id say pay as much as you can. but minimum ive see was about 150-180 a piece.
Exactly what I said for one for 320.. Way too much! Haha well, not quite but I like that! lol Ill see if I can get a good group from this guy

Hahaha I know I know.. I hate when people just try to breed the babies ya know.. Believe me, my group will be quality, it just might take me a year to get a quality group! :naughty: Thats what happens when your a broke *** college student!

i would look into that a little more there are knock off zebras that are sold for around that price range and you can tell when you see them the ones in the pet trade are more brown rather then black

I paid 200 apiece for mine at 1.5'' few years back.

Now the going rate around here is 125-150 as many people can breed those guys.

I'll do the same thing the guy is doing ... sell the young locally at a lower affordable price as THEY can do the work raising/rearing the fry. ANd the more people that can get their hands on them the more gene pool can be passed around and being able to be crossed over thats my opinion. The hobby should be enjoyable to most.

-from some one that's spent 2 years trying to get a female L260 for not an insane price.

I agree. The price has come down a bit within the last year (especially with the availabity of F1). I got a great deal on mine 4 months ago and the price have come down a bit. Wish that I would have purchased more back then. I only have 3 to work with but I have them growing out with my discus frys. They love the daily WC

Exactly! We need more people like you in the hobby! How big of a group do you have? Are they breeding for you yet?

I was hoping to grow them out to try to breed. I also have some L134 that that will try to breed as well.

I have the L46 in this tank so that they graze on the sponge on the left. They love the water flow and plenty of food get suck onto the sponge for them.

Stunning! What a great combo! The yellowish with the black striped L046 is simply amazing! I think some discus would look good in my tank! I have black sand in my 45 gallon acrylic that has a black background and sides! The only think I need is some gray natural caves to really make it perfect for the L046! :headbang2

Phil,

You are never going to see your L46 if you put them a regular tank with the discus. If they have a place to hide, they are gone once you put them in. I did that in my 90 gallon planted tank and had a heck of a time catching them.

In my opinion, the L134 looks better than the L46. People just want the L46 because it's more rare with the export restriction. Just note that neither will do anything with regard to cleaning algae in your tank. They are both for show more than anything.
