I am setting up a 54g tank to house zebra plecos and hopefully breed. Are there any suitable Tankmates? Maybe a pair of discus?

How big are they? You can do what Jay mentioned but when they start getting into adulthood you really dnt want ANYTHING to stress the colony. Better chance of breeding with no other fish in the tank when that time come.

Agree with Rotary, if they're sub adults and your growing them out Discus or any non aggressive species will work, especially ones that stay higher in the water column. You want to get maximum high quality food down to your Zebras, I'm sure the colony wasn't cheap, I'd tailor the tank/conditions to their needs, skip other tankmates if breeding is the goal. Higher temps and swift current is hard on a lot of species.

Thanks guys. They will be babies. I have one 1.5 year old. But will be buying a bunch of babies soon. What temps do you guys think is best?

82F is a good temp, 84F once spawning size. At these temps major surface agitation/current. Powerhead or oversized canister filter, my baby L14's (found alongside L46) are growing out in a 75g with an FX6 and koralia powerhead at 82F.

They are like any pleco and easy to care for and I've kept them with a number of community fish, discus, geophagus, angels, and even frontosa, some Central Americans, desert gobies, and so on. I've kept them from 76-88 degrees in hard and soft water, and they eat everything I throw in as long as it has a high protein content. High dissolved oxygen levels are important, especially at higher temps.

They are very adaptable and very hardy. The only difficult part was getting them to breed. Good luck!

Mine like caves that are no more than 1.25" wide and at least 4"-6" deep and an inch or less tall
