but come on guys, its "magic"

Its magic, you know. Never believe its not so.

I'd go ahead and see if they cover shipping for returns and such. I'm guessing they don't cover shipping and they have a bunch of other catches for returning it, otherwise they'd make no money off of it besides the people that just believe its working and keep paying for the "magical media"

Hey, I'm with you guys, if it doesn't work I'm going to get my money back.

It's not just another under gravel filter. It contains Bacteria rocks http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97979 like the ones in this post.

When I was speaking with the guy over the phone he said something along the lines of packs and the filter cartridges helping convert the nitrite into nitrates. http://www.hiq-usa.com/zero_water_exchange_tech.asp It's the bacteria rocks in the towers that turns them into nitrogen gas which floats to the top and out the tank.

Ill keep you guys posted on my fish. So far they're doing fine.

Any media you put in the HOB filter will have the surface area to house the beneficial bacteria that convert ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate. You can buy $1 in filter media and NOT have to replace it and it will do the same as those $10 filter pads you are buying that say they need to be replaced.

The eco bio-block is also pretty much a hoax. It hasn't been shown by any REAL sources to reduce nitrates. Again if these systems actually worked they'd be put to use in the USA's water treatment plants, which i assure you these are not used at all :grinno:

These snake-oil salesmen really are starting to bother me.

My general rule of thumb: If a salesman has to sell it then its not worth it.

like i already have stated. if these products are such hot s**t then why havent the big guns like eheim and fluval got in on this "magic"?
ask your salesman that.
its an awful lot of money for what is a UGF system. no magic towers of concrete are gonna remove nitrate, they will just provide a bio media for the aerobic bacteria. the site doesnt say anything about these concrete blocks yet the salesman told you over the phone. the site only describes a basic under gravel system, no less and no more. smell a rat yet?
i agree with the rest, you got done up like a kipper mate. if a salesman has to sell it then it aint worth s**t. live and learn my friend.

I don't know I think even If I lived in the magical world where my ammonia nitrite and nitrate where always 0 I would still do water changes.

Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate & pH. The other toxins that may or may not be removed from this system--we don't have regularly available test kits for.

The pH isn't all that relevant, i believe you will probably have problems with mostly ammonia since it doesn't sound like anything was cycled. It may be that they aren't using nitrate removing resins but ammonia removing resins and that would explain why you'd have fish still alive with no waterchanges in a non-cycled tank.
