Zilch's Fish-Kids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My old 15" flagtail i grew out occasionally sucked on poly slimecoat. Never did any kind of damage, but didn't feel 100% safe in there. Great clean-up fish on leftover pellets. That's why I didn't want to rehome initially.

My polys are the pellet cleanup lol!

Siiiick collection you've built up so far Zilch Zilch

I think you have the nicest cb Koliba ive seen.

I'm super jelly of your green polli too
Thanks! I have a habit of buying washed out fish on gravel and then being shocked by what they become on good substrate :) hoping the rescues continue to color up the same way!

So the flagtail I'm keeping an eye on, do far no interest in poly slime but I've heard it could happen so I definitely keep my eyes peeled for that. I have never had a better cleanup fish though, the back glass of the tank used to go brown with algae even with the low light setting... Less than 24 hours with that guy and it's spotless and I leave the high setting on all day now. Not to mention the leftover vacuuming... He's basically put the geos out of business!

Haha unfortunately these guys get dumb mouth, and cause the pellets to explode everywhere when they eat them, the flagtail is like a hoover for that... Also, and this is kind of gross, he tears up the lungfish droppings D:
You can reply to a few posts in one post eyy?

My polys eat the fragments too, it's like the pellets explode in their mouth

I'm fairly certain my syno keeps anything else clean. Algae is a pita though :(

I still need substrate, what are your polys on? Pfs?

As the polys getting bigger and the size of pellets are larger they make more of a mess

Oh goodness. I'm not sure what I'm gonna feed at that point pellet wise...

Hopefully my cat grows in size and appetite to match the polys :p

Haha sorry, that last one was a multiquote fail, and you can't fix that via edit, so I just let it stand!

For substrate I'm using a 70%/30% mix of black and red Estes Permacolorquartz Super Trowelright sand that I got at a concrete supply company back when I was setting up the big tank. I've got more details somewhere in other threads regarding exact product numbers and all that, I'll have to dig it up :o

I do use PFS in basically any tank that isn't for polys though, great stuff :)

Yeah cat should do a good job cleaning up the leftovers, that's kind of their niche :)
