Try feeding him at night with the lights off. don`t leave the zucc. in tank for more than overnight this will keep it from fouling your water. I have actually gone about 24 hrs with no problems but i dont like to do it. I put mine in shortly before bed and remove it in the morning. once my plecos realized what was going on they would greet me at feeding time and become very protective of their meal.Good luck
