    125g Native tank Updated

Looks good. Glad you got your gar a friend. They're very social. :) Just watch the turtle. Neither of ours ever bothered anything except small fish like platys, but you never know. Some of them turn into jerks. Bigger problem seems to be all the waste they produce. We had 4 canisters and some...

around how much money you spent since day one?

Well over 20k in 6 yrs, that's all I know. Not sure on net expenditures since stuff has been sold or traded for other stuff periodically. We sold some boats and 4 wheelers, at one point to buy fish stuff, then sold/traded fish stuff to buy guns or other stuff, and the cycle continues. :nilly:

What is the best looking aquarium shark you have ever owned or seen?

That could definitely be why. He was pawned off on us by our friend who threatened to flush him since he never came out, so we just threw him in our tank. I didn't really know much about them, or even what kind of fish he was at first, we just didn't think he deserved to be disposed of for being...

    Interest in buying Missouri natives

Guys I wasn't expecting so much immediate interest, since the thread was to gauge long term interest in stuff I'll have in the future. We literally JUST got our business name registered and stuff a couple of weeks ago, and I don't even have all my holding and spawning tanks set up yet. I'm also...

Hi, and welcome :) What kind of setups/fish do you keep? Pics are good too. :D

What is the best looking aquarium shark you have ever owned or seen?

That's the exact type of driftwood cat I was referring to! :) Mine almost never came out unless all the lights were off though, and only got to 3 1/2" (got him from someone else though - he may have been stunted). So we only viewed him under the moonlight. But as soon as the lights went off he...

Affordable high protien food for catfish

There's nothing wrong with chicken liver and beef heart, but I have trouble finding the latter consistently. The other problem is chicken liver especially has flavor enhancers and salt added much of the time, so you kind of have to watch for that. I've also fed venison to various fish. It's...

    Interest in buying Missouri natives

They can handle overwintering temps, as long as the water isn't completely frozen, and they can handle fairly warm tropical temps (80 or so), but room temp (65-72) would probably be the best middleground. They get to around 6", and would be fine with peaceful or semi-aggressive tankmates...

HOW DO I BRING BACK NATIVES PLEASSE HELP:(

I dunno where you're at, but if you're catching trout there's a good chance there are sculpin in that area too. If you do some netting you could probably get some. If you see fish that have kind of a wide head with fan-like pectoral fins darting around the bottom they're probably sculpin.

    Interest in buying Missouri natives

Good to know :). I don't expect to make much at first, at the least due to startup cost, but at least it's something I enjoy can help fund my hobby. I'll also be selling live bait here locally, and aquarium supplies, possibly some oddball tropicals, but I need a location first for a...

Affordable high protien food for catfish

My catfish just eat tilapia filets and stuff, with supplemental carnivore or cichlid pellets. If you sport fish, you can cut filets, and freeze them to help kill of parasites/bacteria, then thaw and feed. A colony of nightcrawlers can also be started with relative ease.

Fish injured by heater, white growth - best way to kill fungus?

Usually "fungus" is not real fungus, but bacterial. I had a livingstonii get wedged behind a heater, and it succumbed quickly to columnaris due to the wounds and compromised immune system. Given this experienced I immediately treat fish that sustain serious heater wounds with something like...

    how do they do this

If you've ever had one of the dog waterers with the dish on bottom that the big water bottle sits on top, it works the same way. The water in the bottle trying to flow downward creates a vacuum that cannot be broken until air is let in. As your dog drinks, the water the level in the bottom...

    South american leaf fish

They're neat fish, but he WILL clean out the guppies eventually. They eat until they're stuffed and eat more once they digest some. The need to be fed constantly. Weird for a fish that barely moves, but I had one and they will start to get skinny quick without constant feedings of a lot of...

    need some help plzz !!

I wouldn't just trust that the water is fine because you did a water change, have canisters and the other fish are ok. Some fish will perish from poor water quality and/or low oxygen levels before others. Some fish just handle it better than others. And a 50% water change doesn't fix things if...

    Cold Pond?

I have mosquitofish, topminnows, sunfish, catfish, and shad in my pond. And just recently a bowfin. All kinds of natives would work. For bigger predatory fish, Spotted, longnose and shortnose gar can be kept in ponds year round as long as you have a heater to prevent freezing, as can gator gar...

HOW DO I BRING BACK NATIVES PLEASSE HELP:(

Walmart has that too. I use it a lot. But when I get back to the car I switch to a regular pump with power inverter since it puts out more air. I wanna switch to one of these http://www.memphisnet.net/product/2449/aerators_livewell_misc Operates on either 6v or 12v battery, and you can also...

    Achara Catfish

Oh I agree, it could definitely be a cause in general. I just know it's not with my fish because I know him and I know my water parameters. If you watched him you'd probably agree. It's more of an exercise thing, swimming in figure 8s and stuff, like my minnows do in the bubble wand (and he also...

What is the best looking aquarium shark you have ever owned or seen?

One of smallest commonly available species of sturgeon, the shovelnose, max at around 3 ft. Sterlets max at 4ft but rarely exceed 3. It's a popular pond fish. The dwarf sturgeon only gets around 12", but is very rare. So they don't all get 7 ft plus. I personally think my driftwood cat was kind...
