adonis info needed please?

the link you gave is definately an adonis. however the pic you posted i believe is a big hystrix, ive got the same picture saved somewhere on the pc. big adonis look like

but i have seen loads of plecs marked up as "Adonis" I have 2 friends in the trade 1 is the shop owner the other is a manger I see these plecos come in all the time and I have see so many different budged up Adonis it all gets a bit :nilly: I see it all the time with my fave snakeheads there are so many common names its getting silly.

Because the adonis lacks an L#, many people feel that it just should fall under the L155 #. It was identified before it was issued an L#, so it never received one. A few shops I know of have recieved them in and just tack on the L155 to help it sell better.

;) what chance ave you got :nilly: i have seen plenty of black plecs marked up as Adonis and i know they are not but i know that L155 has been sold and imported as Adonis plecs can be a tough one.

and when they reach adult size, a lot loosed their spots too, so...
with those websites, i can see why anyone would be confused. the first one is good, because it is calling one fish two different fish

ah no i see what that first link has done now. it has called it a black adonis. basically when they are young that is the easiest way to tell them apart. adonis has spots, the other one hasnt. they have called it a black adonis as a common name, and the scientific name the proper one for the fish

Exactly for example Channa marulius I have seen marked up as bullseye snakehead; giant snakehead; great snakehead; cobra snakehead; Indian snakehead take you pick that’s why common names can be misleading.:D

I've said it once, I'll say it again. COMMON NAMES SUCK!

There has also been the histrix that has been mislabeled as pseudacanthicus histrix.

yea, that was the first attempt wasnt it? even scientific names can suck when it comes to plecos
