going to pick one up later next week and wanted to hear from some keepers. I know they are delicate but wanted to give it a shot it will be going in a 40 gal that is almost cycled. Should I purchase a uv steralizer ? If so can anyone recommend a good one with a built in pump ( currently have and ac110) what do you feed them ? And should I get two to increase my chances ?

watch out for white poop. if you see that start treating for IP's. also i personally would get two. when they are small they stick together very closely. i feed mine nls pellets, and now that they are bigger they love stealing my eels earthworms whenever they can.

Yes they do seem to be social when young, getting a m/f pair would make sure there is no aggression later on, but for a pair, later on you might want to upgrade to a 75g, cheers, Jim

They are very delicate. I went through 2 of them before someone on here gave me advice on them and said to raise 1 on its own. Well I did and it's been 6 months now and he's about 2-3in. So I bought another one and for the first 2 months I raised it in a 10 gallon until it got some size on him. Now he's sharing my 30 gallon until both of them get some size before going into my 240. Like someone said the key is water changes. I do mine once a week. Good luck

Well tiger barbs are known fin nippers and EBJDs are delicate so.....your call honestly. If you want less maintenence you could just do the JD and BB catfish.
