Snout however is much more narrow and nowhere near as broad as a gator. Really Gators and Cubans are the most distinctive and obvious of all gars. There is little to confuse them with as they really look nothing like any of the other gar species in any stage of their life.
i get gators and shortnose confused sometimes. that is why i didnt put it as an option for these fry. cuz they look almost identical to gators in some cases. i havent seen that many cubans, just on primitivefishes.com.

I have an update to post. The fish are 3" to 3 1/4" now and are getting a thicker body. Here are a few pictures I took today. Let me know what you think.
