Ok cool thanks for the info so now my tank is
12 foot intex pool without shipping costs $180
Insulation from Home Depot $80
Filtration (home made) appx $200
a removable cover with viewing windows (home made)appx $60
sand appx $50
Heater $380
Cooler $800
Total so far appx $1,650
I'm not sure If I will need the heater because it doesn't get too cold in Merced and it will be in a garage not completely outside. I'm pretty sure that I have left things out of my estimation and price list so let me know what I left out and I'll put it up.

So I started thinking about filtration the other day. I was planning on building a large sump for it. I was thinking about a 150 gallon sump system. I know that sounds small for a 1000 gallon pond so I was also thinking about a large filter system. I have no clue if this is the right type of filtering system. What kind of systems are used and what kind do you use? Pictures would be nice along with an explanation so I can get an idea of what I really need to make.
