Great looking fish.
I heard they tend to die within first 2 yrs for no reason not easy to keep like reg Dempsey?
They can be tough to keep alive until they hit the magic 3" mark. I lost 2 last year for what seems like no reason at all, at least I haven't been able to figure out a reason. Im getting a couple more in about a month or so but this time there'll be a UV sterilizer on the tank and hopefully I'll have better luck.

Probably genetic reasons due to the line breeding.

I have a question...why is a UV sterilizer good for EBJDs? I just ordered a couple for the store and I am just curious. Want to be able to educate people as best as I can.

When they are young (<3") they seem to have a weak immune system and are prone to a fatal intestinal parasite. The UV sterilizer seems to control the parasite, and greatly lessen the chance of infection.

Thanks Mark :) That's what I needed to know. I am not sure how big the ones I am getting will be...If I had to guess, I would say 2.5-3 inches. But, I have been wrong before... :D

Here's my boy blue..RIP. I had him since he was 1,5 inches.
He passed a couple weeks ago. He was 4 years old.
I had a tough time finding any pics of him, sadly. He was one of my favorites. :(
Pics aren't that good, but they're all I have left of him.

I know what you mean. I managed a couple of pet shops for about eight years, and my ruler often didn't match my wholesalers. Mine seemed to be in inches while theirs were in centimeters.:irked:
