I recently got a blue dempsey three days ago. Its about 4 inch long and it just cost me $8.99 as the people at LFS thought it was johnanni. Are 3 inch long and more ones always expensive?

Please post a pic. EBs normally start at about $15 to $20 an inch. If yours is an EB, you got a GREAT deal.

They can be tough to keep alive until they hit the magic 3" mark. I lost 2 last year for what seems like no reason at all, at least I haven't been able to figure out a reason. Im getting a couple more in about a month or so but this time there'll be a UV sterilizer on the tank and hopefully I'll have better luck.

Years ago when they came out pet store I used to go to carried them fairly cheap for $30 .

Sold them all and next shipment sold them all again only to have them all die within yr or 2 from all different owners.

They are stunning fish but seems like high death percentage

Well, i guess you have seen this picture before but since he died this year, i have no new ones...Here's my boy...8" plus when he passed away at the age of 5..

I guess i'm not over his death...Just ordered a 6 incher and two 2 inchers..hehehe

He makes blue babies but they all have nasty head shape... both his 'Blue Gene' babies and his Blue babies... He's a great "pet quality" fish, he just has no place in a breeding set up. Situations like this is yet another reason it's so hard to produce Blues...

Binohendrix, Consider yourself fortunate. I don't know of any source to get a 6" Blue Dempsey in the States...

My LFS recently had some in, they were about 2" and they were charging $40 a piece. You got a VERY good deal
