what about Asian arowanas? They are currently being bred by the millions, it has been this way for years already

also, how do you know that 12" clown loaches are still abundant in the wild, there already has been a ban on export of larger loaches for the past 6 years, maybe that has something to do with their decline in numbers? Also, nobody knows what's out there in the wild, but we are talking about what is available to us, in the hobby and in the fish tank.

As for cichla intermedia, first we cannot import from Venezuela, second-cichla are banned from export out of Venezuela, third-all thousand dollar efforts in trying to bring them in, in the past few years have yielded only temensis or orinocensis.

The one difference in your comparison though, is that 12" clown loaches can be found, maybe not easily, and maybe not for a long time, but they can be found. Same goes with the intermedia. You may have the only 5 now, but do you doubt that will change? They are out there and it's a matter of getting your hands on them and they will become just as common as the latest cichla trend/craze whatever you want to call it. Pulchers, cannot be found as easily or at all compared to the other 2. The pulcher population has declined over 90% over the past 2 decades and perhaps even more. You can offer $2000 and still come away empty handed. That being said, you are the only vendor on here that continually brings in fish of this caliber and rarity and you truly are a hobbyist to the extreme.

Do we have a species name for the blackberries? I've heard from some that they are actually a cross and not a true sp. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Just curious and sorry if that's a bit of a threadjack Wes. Great fish as usual! Seeing those Intermedias is very exciting.
My understanding is that what little I have found on some Asian sites is its a cross between Wide Bars and Red Hooks. But that is internet fodder. Check out mine in the characin media lounge that Ive had for a few months now.

thanks again Wes. the fish looked great, however the conversation was, imo, far more valuable. Thanks for your time and i look forward to talking again soon.

You can find a pulcher much easier now with $1k-$2k than an intermedia or a 12" clown loach. If you live in hope that one day some fish will become more available, you're the one who hung on the tailpipe of the bandwagon smelling smoke, and not the person in the driver seat, if that's how you enjoy your hobby.

There are probably more 12 inch clowns around than we know of.. I know a guy with one right now and he doesn't do the online site thing. I'm sure with clowns so Available to the public there's plenty of people out there who buy them up and hoard them from the local pet stores but on the cichla thing... with only 5 intermedia here in the US why not keep them. Nothing is Guaranteed in this hobby. You never know what could happen if you sell them or keep them. You may have something happen to where they all die on you or it could happen to the buyer or something during shipping. Keeping them would be the smart choice here. Unless we get a sudden wave of intermedia like other cichla. This hobby comes at a price either way for the Serious fish keepers out there. Always Impressed to see what you get in next!

we can do a head count of 12" clown loaches here. Like I said, probably less than a handful around. Sure there may be some that are not on the internet, but also many people overestimate the size of their clown loaches. 8-10" are seen every now and then, 12" are almost rare to non, and over 13-14" is extremely rare, even in the wild. Back in the days, there were 15-16" ones, that looked like giant carps.

As for hoarding, you could hoard all you want, if you keep it for 10 years, you may get it to a good 10-12 inches. They're not known for growing fast.
