How much experience do you have..now?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I got my first tank about 25 years ago and quickly got addicted to fishkeeping. I wish I'd taken photos or kept a journal, because I can't remember all the tanks I had, but at least half a dozen. Coldwater, tropical, marine, you name it. Then my 4 footer cracked and made a mess of my dads house and that was when I had to move all my tanks out! Luckily, we lived on a farm at the time, so I could keep them in one of the outbuildings. But it just wasn't the same as having them living with you. Then along came bmx and girls and I slowly gave it all up...!
I only started again last December(!) so you could say I'm a six month old newbie!
I now realise that I really didn't have a clue what I was doing before - just get a tank, throw any old water in it and stock it with fish! "Why do they keep dying...?"
I wish stuff like MFK was around when I started, then I wouldn't have sent so many fishy friends to fishy heaven.....
Now Im sucking up info like a sponge from everywhere and realising that LFS don't care about you and not much about the fish they sell you. If it dies they make another sale replacing it....

Depends on the fish species....over the years I've accumilated a lot of experience and knowledge about varius fish species, but there are certain fish I know more about than others. I know more than most people that work at LFS though, and personally I think that is an awesome accomplishment when you have the ability to make people who work at LFS look stupid. Its already been said, there is just soo much you never can know it all, but you just keep on learning...;).

I first started with damn near no experiance when I got a 20L from my cousin for 5.00 , an slowly built my knowledge up. I moved my way up to a 55 then a 75, now I have a 120 a 75 an a 29, an enough knowledge to do most anything with them. Though my knowledge def increased 200% once I found this site.

I've been keeping fish off and on since around 1974, including a hiatus from the hobby from 1991 to 2000. I've never considered myself an "expert" in the hobby though. That's why I have a silly robotic cat for an avatar. Just enjoy the hobby, help others, know when to ask for help when I'm in over my head, and try not to step on anyone's toes. It @#$%! hurts getting your toes stepped on by a robot cat! :(
