Hi guys
I've had a pseudodoras niger (talking catfish) for the past few years now and he is now about 18 inches long. I have him in a 65 gallon tank, and he does fine. However, I am worried about how much more he may grow--and what size of tank I may eventually need. I've been told these fish can grow to be as big as 2-3 feet. I could probably deal with 2, but 3 seems too large for an aquarium.
Can anyone give me some advice on this issue? This fish is really cool--you can pet him, pick him up, feed him by hand, and he even lets you hold him out of the tank if you have to treat him with medicine (i.e. bacterial infection). My primary concern is doing right by the fish now and later, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

just get a tank that is at least 3 feet wide to make it easier for him to turn. i wouldnt count on it but he may never get three feet long, it just depends on his genetics and eating habits.

the question in my mind is how does it turn now? do you pick it up and put it in the other direction? jk, i would get something with more width though so that he doesn't have to turn up to the top of the tank to turn around. Plan on him getting to 3 ft. just in case, even though he may never get over 2-2 1/2ft.

Hi the best advise I can give you as a keeper of monster cats is to build a indoor pond! as big as you can! a tank the size you will need for a cat that can and does get big will cost in the thousands of dollars. It is much cheaper to build a pond and make it the dementions you will need for his whole life!!!
You deff have a cool cat!!

Thanks for all of your advice! I have looked into placing him at a local aquarium store with a really large display tank. However I can't bring myself to give him up. So, I revamped the tank so that it was more "monster-fish friendly". He can still move around and turn with no problem. I am going to keep him for now!
