one time i was the lfs and some guy broke down his 150g to get 2 tiny damsels out that he used to cycle it
i was at petsmart today and i got some corys the guy asked me how big my tank was
so he seemed somewhat smart so i told him is't sad they sell id sharks he asked why so i told him they get big then he said all fish get big over time
then i told him they get huge like 3-4 feet so he said they don't get that big at the store 
then said if they did he would just throw it out
so he seemed somewhat smart so i told him is't sad they sell id sharks he asked why so i told him they get big then he said all fish get big over time then i told him they get huge like 3-4 feet so he said they don't get that big at the store then said if they did he would just throw it outWhen I go to pet stores,I like to have conversations with the employees on fishes and even ask questions at times on certain fishes,but I hate when certain *** hole employees give me attitude on how African Cichlids are not allowed to be with South American Cichlids at all.I tell them right away,I have OB Peacocks with my South America Cichlids and they don't even bother with each other at all.They shut up afterwards,when I tell them that.I am usually nice to employees,but if they're going to be pricks about certain fishes I have questions on.
i was in petsmart and i happened to overhear this conversation
customer. will this tank be good for a goldfish? hold up a mesh hermit crab tank
employee. no sir that tank will not hold water it's meant for crabs.
customer. but it's just a little fish
employee. yes but it will not hold wtaer its got tiny holes in it
customer. you mean this tank isn't gonna work for a tiny goldfish?
i had to walk away at this point to keep from laughing.

"At the petco I worked at a few years ago people would come in and request something like 50 bettas in a particular color for that same reason. The people never said anything about returning them, so I figured most would just end up dead"
I know of someone who cheaped out with feeder goldfish for her wedding after going to one that used Bettas. She said the guests almost got into fight over who got to take home the bettas.
Anyways after her wedding I asked if the untaken goldfish would be added to a pond or something. The cleaners told me they would be thrown out as they would all be dead by morning. I tracked down the bride and told her that she HAD to take care of it that she could not start he new life on the death of all those fish. She talked her moms boyfriend into taking most of them to add to his 55 gallon that already had very large feeders...I took three. She was pretty pissed that I put it back on her but I was pissed that she had no thought for what would happen to them. She told me the betta story and that she had thought we would all want to take home feeder goldfish. Duh.
I know of someone who cheaped out with feeder goldfish for her wedding after going to one that used Bettas. She said the guests almost got into fight over who got to take home the bettas.

i was out looking for some ideas for my 90 on a saterday, went to every store in green bay, 2 petcos (one has a larger fish section) a petsmart and two smaller lfs. when i was at petsmart there where two early 20's girls working, both were really nice and seemed to know more than the average person, asked all the usual questions, how big, how long established, whats in it. we got to talking about some options, but was only looking. they went about helping other customers and i was looking at 3 abk's when another employee came up and asked if i needed help, told him "just looking, but these knifes are cool" He askes how big is your tank? 90. ohh then you should check these out. clown knifes, on the tag says 25-35 inches. you could keep both of these. i just stared at him for a couple seconds. one of the girls was behind him when he said it and her head snapped around like it was on a spring. i hope they didnt go to someone with a small tank.
also at one of the smaller stores, the owner took me into the basement were he keeps his private stock. guy really knows his stuff. unfortunately he had to cut his store in half about a year ago with the economy going south, he had some really cool stuff.

Why the hell is this thread not pinned yet? It has more pages then most the Pinned ones I have seen. On other sites I have moded on in the past this bad boy would have been pinned.
Anyway, I was at walmart and I was by the fish section picking up food and acouple filter packs. A guy was there wanting to build a 10g comunity for his daughter and was asking the Walmart employee about what he needed to do. So me being me I start educating the two on requirements, best community fish, ect. Needless to say the Walmart guy kept thanking me because he was learning and I was doing all the work minus bagging.
By the end I was surrounded by tons of people asking me about tanks, fish, setups, ect, and I feel something. You husbands know it, that slight uncomfortable feeling that burns deep inside. As if someone is peering deep into your soul dissapprovingly. So I look up and see my wife glaring at me by her cart. She hates my hobby and the fact that I can't keep my mouth shut when I hear bad advice and animal care. What can I say though, I was raised that way. You google Dr John Hoover(My father) and one of the first pictures you see is him working on tiger or a lion. She came looking for me when it took me over 10mins just to grab fish food. So I drop the site(MFK) get many "Thank you's" and walk over to the wife with my kids. My oldest son proceeds to tell her "Daddy is a genuis mom, he helped all those people". She laughs and wants to go pick up make up. In the words of the late, great Rodney Dangerfield, "I get no respect".
