New tank 84x36x24 ... Time for a Stand build!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the advice! Pictured I have brand new minwax brushes. Will I need to clean the brushes if I do it all at once?

I bought two quarts :)

My deck screws are the 6 star type at T25. :)

Yep those are the screws. If you apply more than 1 coat you will have to either clean or wrap up your brushes. There is a dry time between coats
If you dont allow it to dry it will get blotchy when you apply the second coat

I have never used the treated plywood on any of my stands and I've built plenty over the past 13 years. Just get 5/8" regular plywood. If your plywood is getting that wet that you need marine grade, then you have bigger problems to work on. Hell I think on my 300g I used that cheap OSB board. That was up and running for 4 years in my house and has been running elswhere for the past 2 years.

Looks like I'm going with something similar to birch plywood, 3/4".

I have another question not pertaining to stand.

What pump is recommended for this tank? At 95% full, it will be 300g (100% 314g, not sure where the overflows are located yet) ... Sump is 75g tank obviously not all of the way full. Plan on doing a 24/7 water changing system with a chloramine/chlorine filter.

Am going to be running fx5 and aquatop 500uv (same as larger sunsun) on this tank as well for added bio and filtration.

So what size pump is recommended? The tank is 2 feet tall and I'm guessing the stand will be about 3-4 feet tall, therefore I need something that will be sufficient at 5-6 feet to tank. As far as noise and price, would like to stay on a lower budget with lower sound but we all know that isn't likely. So something affordable and not too noisy is perfect (good quality is assumed here, I don't want to pay for something I'll have to upgrade anyway).
