New Fish Room - 11.5 X 6.5

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
looks like alot of work, but it will be worth it if thats what you want!

Sounds like it's going to look real nice when it's done. I personally agree with the lack of support with the upper shelf that's holding 3x 40g tanks just have 2x4 supports. If it were me, I'd have corner supports run down to the ground.

There will be. I don't know why I didn't draw them into the plan. No way in hayul it would work as drawn. The overhead platform will have to reinforced also. There are 6 - 27 gallon totes going up there for water storage in the winter months.

I had to heat the room anyway so I am hoping that by heating the room, the water that is being stored for water changes will be heated as well.

I don't know if the physics will work in my favor or not but I am thinking that if I can ever get all of the water that is in the room @ temp of 72-77 degrees, it will aid in keeping the room at that temp as well. 40% of the room's cubic volume will be water.

Water is a better thermal insulator than air, right? It takes more energy to alter water temp than air temp, right? If that is the case (it may not be) - then I think I am on the right path. (hopefully)

Without further ado...

Outside wall, door, AC, etc..

From garage, looking into room.. Overhead H20 storage bins. I have extremely soft & acidic water so they will be pre-mixed for tank top off & water changes. 6 - 27 gallon totes that will be interconnected via bulk-heads & vinyl. Heaters & circulation pumps will be in there as well. Tight clearances, I know. Unfortunately, it had to be for the two rows of 40's to fit. You can also see the receptacles that were wired to power the heaters & circulation pump.

Overhead shot of the door & AC.. Nice air funnel, huh? I am actually thinking of building one out of acrylic.

Here is the pre-fab tank support for the bottom row of 40's

Here it is nailed in place. Lower support legs still need to be added.

Another shot with me elevated on a ladder. The blue tape is a place holder to indicate the center line of the room. Everything is positioned relative to this point in the room.

Most recent photo of the 180. I noticed that I had another female Hara holding :nilly:Second one in 3 weeks!!!!!

I really need to convince my wife to let me break out her Canon 50D so I can get some decent shots. That is probably a more controversial request than the fish room! :irked:

Great setup so far! I really want to do something similar when I move.

One suggestion if you're going for sponge filters as your sole source of filtration is to always use two (or more! :)) per tank, so you can clean one at a time and not worry about disrupting a cycle. Also, if one gets disconnected for some reason you will have a back up.

hey u should go bare bottom tanks, but what you should do is paint the bottom of the tank glass with textured sand paint to make it look like there is a sand bottom
