Using fish tank water to water plants

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i guess if your that anal about everything. theres tons of stuff you need to worry about then. lol. Buy a R/O unit and only use that water. just waste your old tank water. it just evaporates anyway and rains back to us.If you dont use natural fish meds. then maybe you have something to worry about. plus your carbon in your filter should remove the meds. plus its not stagnant water and is being filtered at least 4 times in one hour. and there is living fish in it. o my. lol. Unless its maybe goldfish or koi. i dont wanna argue. if you dont agree then just state your opinion and dont say everyone is giving you bad advise.

What in my filter? You use carbon? Nice! BTW, Carbon is only to keep your tank from smelling like $h1+! I actually gravel vacume out the fish waste and maintain perfectly clean smelling tanks WITHOUT USING CARBON!

If you don't agree, just state your oppinion and gag like a maggott! Oh, or just use Carbon and the heck with waste removal!

haha o dude. i use carbon beacuse it helps with the smell as you say and water clarity. i also vac the bottom of my tank. i dont want ANY odor from my tanks. and yes carbon will remove meds as well. I love this forum or id realy tell you what i think of your attitude.

agreed

y would u be such a d bag bout carbon??

The nitrates and nutrients are like crack for plants. I dont fertilize my yard, I drain my tanks out on to the grass.
Please note, however, if you add salt to your water, even a little bit, the salt will accumulate and could actually kill your plant/s.
In other words, as the water evaporates the salt is left behind and will stay in the soil gradually becoming more and more toxic for plants to live in.

Same here but I personally would not use it on food I'm going to eat

I do! My fruit trees love the stuff.

Do you think the fish poo is getting into my fruit? Cuz........I have a bridge for sale......

Some experts recommend spending your money on only certain organic fruits and vegetables because some retain more pesticides and fertilzer than others. You could approach fish tank water usage the same way. Here is a list of things they recommend buying organic:

  1. Nectarines – 97.3% of nectarines sampled were found to contain pesticides.
  2. Celery – 94.5% of celery sampled were found to contain pesticides.
  3. Pears – 94.4% of pears sampled were found to contain pesticides.
  4. Peaches – 93.7% of peaches sampled were found to contain pesticides.
  5. Apples – 91% of apples sampled were found to contain pesticides.
  6. Cherries – 91% of cherries sampled were found to contain pesticides.
  7. Strawberries – 90% of strawberries sampled were found to contain pesticides.
  8. Imported Grapes – 86% of imported grapes (i.e. Chile) sampled were found to contain pesticides.
  9. Spinach – 83.4% of spinach sampled were found to contain pesticides.
  10. Potatoes – 79.3% of potatoes sampled were found to contain pesticides.
  11. Bell Peppers – 68% of bell peppers sampled were found to contain pesticides.
  12. Red Raspberries – 59% of red raspberries sampled were found to contain pesticides.
Here are some that have the least amount of pesticides and fertilizer:

  • Asparagus
  • Avocados
  • Bananas
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Corn (However, almost all corn is genetically modified)
  • Kiwi
  • Mangoes
  • Onions
  • Papaya
  • Pineapples
  • Sweet Peas
So if you really wanted, only use the fish tank water on crops from the second list and use other water for crops from the first list.

I would think fish tank water would be pesticide free? Odd? Should I be using pesticides in my fish water? Have I been doing my water changes wrong all these years?????
