That's funny because I got rid of 400 kois for someone this past weeekend. Ranging from 4" to 12". They were from an unwanted spawn. You need to get Indian Mahseers. They are cold water and inexpensive when you buy them small. There are many different Indian sp. you can get....mussullah, morsal, neo hex., neo stra., putitora, khudree. Spinabarbus are cool too.
Make it a reef. Would be epic, but you wouldnt be able to stay in the same room with the tank for very long, the lighting required would give you a sunburn LOL

Every time i see a deep tank like this all i can amagine is cleaning the tank and how that is even possible.
Heat it and put some cichla in there! Your tank is amazing and it needs some amazing fish.
with the room being insulated i really think you can sustain 78 degrees fairly economicly but great idea to try it this winter ..I really think the heat generated by the pump and the tank being warm to begin with you won't have to run those heaters 24 /7 like i had to last winter in my garage with no insulation i am insulating this year for sure !!!LOL!!
if your so concerned about heating cost go native, a bunch of trout, pickerel, channel/blue cats or various bass would look nice in that tank.
If I go with tropical fish, I may die of a heart attack after opening the first utility bill in the winter. I think I might just stock it with goldfish for now, and buy some heaters and try to maintain 78F when it gets colder to see how often the heaters cycle. I get the following cost/month based on the number of hours the heaters are "on."
12 hours a day = $215/month
10 hours a day = $180/month
8 hours a day = $144/month
6 hours a day = $108/month
These numbes are using 1500watts of heaters (at $0.40kwh), which might not even be enough. The numbers above would obviously get even uglier if I had to run more wattage.
I know what you mean, but after looking at the numbers, goldfish are starting to look a lot more attractive.
Look, I will drive over there and give you what you paid for the tank. No big deal. I will stock it properly and take some pictures for you![]()
