TANKED on Animal Planet

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ya, I'd definitely agree the show has some value and is definitely good for the hobby. Its just a shame its so scripted. I wouldn't expect them to talk about bio-loads and GPH or stuff, but if its a reality show, then at least show real stuff, not scripted so much.

They know how to build tanks, but they know very little about how to stock or care for fish IMO.

I mean they where honestly surprised when newly acclimated rays buried them selves in sand?

That being said the tanks they make are amazing and I am enjoying the show despite some things like the coral in a freshwater tank that make me cringe
I think the whole rays burying in the sand was blown out of proportion just to add a bit of drama and suspense to keep people watching. Along with the cross not sinking in the last show etc.

Funny thing about the cross is they used Fiber board and epoxied the outside so the inside will start to Rot and release Toxins from the glue into the tank eventually.

I just watched about 5 minutes of the Keg tank episode. Nothing against the show, but its not for me at all. Clearly its targeted for people that dont actually know the hobby inside and out. All reality TV is scripted now. Some more than others. So I wasnt expecting much. I was expecting the "wow" factor. And of course there is the horrid editing at each commercial break that makes it look like something terrible just happened when if fact it was just a bottle breaking.
Its a typical Reality show. Very predictable.

And those guys are just too annoying. I wonder what the lawyer will do with his Leopard shark when it actually grows. Will he give it back and exchange it for another baby?

I wish Tanked was more of an informative show rather than a reality show. At this point, I just watch the show to see how the tank comes out. It seems that they know some stuff about the fish, but more so select them based on their appearances. All in all, I'll take River Monsters over tanked any day :D

The show is just for TV, I bet the guys have a pretty good idea of what they're doing. I wish it were a little, a lot, less scripted but hey what can you do? That they have to create suspense and make a big deal out of little things is actually a credit to the men doing the work. It shows that they do a pretty darn good job. What I find sad is how some people see a fish tank like they would a painting or a sculpture. What I always liked was on cribs when a rapper would have a giant tank with sharks and a tv mounted on it and then have a small(er) cichlid tank that he would fawn over or talk about them instead of the sharks. Its nice to see what people think of there fish and I wish that Tanked showed more of that.

Well said... Instead of giving America yet another "reality show" they have the opportunity to actually Raise the bar and teach those that Fish can be as important to an owner as a dog or cat or other pet is. Instead they are just feeding the idea that Fish are just "Pictures".. and encourageing yet another "Nemo" boom or "Goldfish in a bowl"... I will say their newest episode was headed in a better path... My husband and I watch this show with my parenst... my mom loves the SW tanks colors ect... and My Dad after being out of the hobby returned... so It's fun to watch them react to some of the tanks. But even they where asking me why the tanks had so many fish in them.. and could that leopard shark really be okay in that tank for it's whole life? because it was such a cool fish... Or if my dad decided to upgrade his tank how many Rays could he put into it?.. I readily admit SW is not where my heart or interest lies... But I was able to answer most of their questions with a "No, they probably remove X fish when they get to big and put a new baby in" or " They are probablly maintaining that tank for the owner and doing regular large water changes on the system to keep so many fish alive in that size of a tank"

Love to see DIY do a show on in-home custom tanks... something like Yard Crashers, or Bathroom Crashers.. or the new kitchen one... if TANKED was more like those shows... It'd be much better received imo by hobbyists and the "general public"... rofl.. I told my husband if we had the chance to be on Yard Crashers.. I'de be like " Look... most people have dogs.... Here is what I want for my Gar for the summer monthes...So a pond would be Great! do whatever else you want... But my Fish need a place out here." he just shakes his head.....

I have thought about setting up an outdoor "summer"pond for my fish.
