How many of you go to lfs where you tend not to like them for whatever reason, but still find yourself going?

Today I went to a lfs after the gym. I don't go there often, but my friend likes that place because he says they have nice Goldfish. They don't seem to get anything really interesting for me, but occasionally I'll see something I like and get overcharged for it:irked: The owner is kind of a Douche. He was making small talk with me when I told him that I found a Delhezi for $80 up in Santa Barbara where I've found it for half the price in SGV. He said that $80 is the going rate for a Delhezi:screwy: He's been getting nicer each time I go in, but I can't trust the guy for anything.

I agree. I have a local fish store that I traded my silver arowana. The agreement was for half of their retail asking price for the 17-inch fish. They told me they would ask for $120 and offered me $60 in store credit. I went back to the store and saw that they were asking for $200. I complained to the store manager and gave me another $40 in store credit. I decided to stop patronizing their business because they also are overpriced, but they do get rare and unique fish, when compared to some of out other fish stores. I stayed away for about 14 months. When I finally went back in, the 2 crooks who tried to cheat me were no longer employed there. Now I go back in on a regular basis, but I still use caution when dealing with these guys. They recently had a 3-inch zebra pleco for $300. I know they're rare, but that's too much, I think. The moral of the story is that fish stores don't pay their employees much and this generates greed, because this particular store gives their employees a bonus for sales that they generate. The other moral is that fish stores tend to have high employee turnover.

I don't really like any of the stores I don't work at. Most of them have a "if it's hungry enough it will start eating flake" mentality when it comes to feeding their fish. I go to them though, looking for cool trade-ins.

I see these on the wholesale lists at work quite often, and for most suppliers, this isn't really a big markup, and cheaper and it wouldn't even be worth ordering them. An arowana for 200 though, is quite a bit. We had 20" arowana that took months to sell at 100 each.

the LFS here the only complaint i have is the type of fish they have in stock.huge saltwater section and the freshwater is ok but its just your normal things like cichlids, gourami's,goldfish and such.rare they have Ck's,BGK's,elephant nose and such.

I go to one that I do not like because the staff can get rude and they think they know everything. They told me I told me that I could house a gt pair in a 50g for life, so I told him that this info is incorrect and he started to get really pissy with me however, after a month I went in and he apologised and gave me a 10% discount :D But it the only place near me that sells bloodworm, shrimp and spinach mix in bulk :(

My silver sold within a week for $200. At that size, they're rare. Ey had a buyer in mind even before they closed the deal with me. Rumor has it that they sold it to a restaurant owner, who placed it in a tank at his restaurant.

I wish I had a better LFS. The only LFS is more of general pet store...They have like 5 fw tanks and 5 sw, The real owners are real nice and know a lot about fish, but they are usually at their other store 45 minutes away. So I'm stuck with these two ladys who know next to nothing, and are mean! Wish I had more options :irked:

Quite frankly I'm not a fan of Aquarium Adventure in Bolingbrook. I'm never really impressed when I go in there and the sales people are weirdos and have no idea which fish is which. However the one in Hoffman Estates is a bit nicer.

I don't go to the stores in my city as much as I used to but there is one across town that I like to check out every now and then. The owner or manager is not very friendly or talkative and I wouldn't have to even talk with him if it was not for the fact that most of the tanks are not marked for prices of the fish that they contain. If something catches my eye I have to walk back to the front counter where he is usually busy playing on hs laptop and ask him to come with me so I can show him what it is I am interested in.He probably makes up prices on the fly.
