Shopping for watches, need suggestions...

I would never wear a cheap watch. It's like your only acceptable man bling besides your wedding ring in a formal setting. There's PLENTY of things I skimp on in life, but something like this is not one of them.

Care to tell us what you wear then...

my wife got me a real nice bulova for my last bday

$500

i'm not big on jurry myself so i would've been fine with a $100 watch, but oh well

I agree, something about a nice automatic watch on my wrist when I am out having dinner or just out in jeans and white t-shirt. Every guy if they can afford, should have a nice automatic watch... like a family hierloom and past it on.

BTW, do you prefer a rolex with a 21,600 BPH movement or a cheaper brand with a 28,800 BPH movement?

Depends on who made the cheaper movement. Rolex is a Rolex... it will last generations if taken care of. Cheaper movements with faster BPH might break down even if properly cared for.

I would love to buy cheap Chinese tourbillon for $500. I have heard good reviews about certain models. Just can't find any for sale except online and I don't trust buying watches online. Cheap Chinese made tourbillon for $500-$1000 or Swiss made one for $100,000? I like watches like I like fish. It can be cheap and still be nice. I just love the inner workings of watches.

Automatic is always the best option, but the are also good Swiss watches with quarzt internals. I have both automatice and quartz, Swiss watches. No one has mentioned that status that a Swiss watch offers the owner. They are classic.

I agree there are alot of nice quartz watches, but once you get the watch bug... only automatics will do.

Yeah, the lowest price I have seen for a pre owned Rolex was about thirtyfive hundred dollars. The only Tag watches I have seen that were under 800 were styles that did not appeal to me.

Rolex and Tags are in a different classes ( I would say in the 3rd and 5th tier, price wise) ...If you want something that holds its value like a Rolex probably Cartier would be my first choice (similar price wise but way better looking). But IMO you can't go wrong with any automatic from these ( very reputable ) brands : Omega, Mont Blanc, Baume & Mercier, Ebel, Maurice Lacroix.

There are other manufacturers that make excellent time pieces, but in my experiences, Rolex holds value more than all other brands. I've got 2 Rolex pieces, a Tag and a few lower-end Swiss pieces, such as Movado, Raymond Weil, ect . . . I can trade my 2 Rolex pieces, and literally get back what I paid for them, while all of my other watches have slightly depreciated in value.

This was my point when I said that these watches were out of the range that Cardona wanted to pay.Even used pieces would be out of the ballpark, lol a good replica can cost five hundred bucks.

I'm a 24 year old college student, all my money goes to fish tanks, my motorcycle, rent, and food! I have a rolex I inherited but I keep it in a safe at my parent's house. But once I graduate, get a career going, and am in the market for a new watch, I'm just saying I wouldn't buy something random off the Internet. Nothing wrong with people who do, was just stating my opinion. :)
