who said aro could not have tank mates????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
nah, those grills are my perimeter fence.... but yes, i have 3 tanks outside the house, at my carport, exposed to sunlight. yet i am not affected by the green algae as others do. that is why i do not believe that too much light/sunlight causes green algae...

take a look at this grow out tank for my tilapia fingerlings:

its not just light that grows algae. your tank must be stable and management deals with wastes from building up.
heaps of koi ponds will have algae until the filters mature. but one way of reducing algae is reduced light.
light, water, air, correct nutrient ratio is the equation..

now to aggression. some particular specimens are more aggro than others. even some jars can be kept in community tanks.
then others will kill everything. you can have two arows in a tank. they might be in the lower range of aggro for their species or they might be a pair. you can have extra aggression due to breeding desires, or desire for territory/food too. in this temp or season can play a role as to how they will behave with or toward another one.
not all fish are born with it or have learned the need for it. best bet is if you want a non aggro one..buy from someone that has held it with other fish successfully and try match the scenarios.

silvers get drop eye rather easily. no one should hassle people just because they own a silver with drop eye. take a species that is supposed to look into branches and above the water a lot of its time and you can expect it.

Do you use plant filtration on the Tilapia tanks? That might be the reason you don't have issues with algae. Your plants may be outcompeting algae that would otherwise be growing in your tank. Just a guess.
plants in the filtration system, not inside the tank.

@ausarow, thank you. i am now learning to ignore harsh and useless comment.

no worries. tilapias are very good at eating stuff out. one of the reasons they do so well as a food fish to feed the poorer peoples is because they can take such a brood diet and they will tolerate rather poor water too. i wish i could grow em here actually. they have some ability to take algae and make little balls of it in the back of their mouth and swallow it i think. i read once of farmers that just fertilise the ponds and they live mainly off algae blooms.

yeah, they are capable balling the algae...

and yes also in fertilizer spread. we dries up the pond, apply the ammonium nitrate, exposed to sun and let water comes in. in two weeks time, plenty of blub and bingo, release the fish

:ROFL:This thread has made me laugh! MFK= the internet forum people like to talk down on others and argue their opinion being the only possible solution/possibility!

Ex: Im smarter and better than you! and my opinion/experiences is how things work for everyone!
No your not, I'm an engineer and I have figured out a system that works great for me!
Engineers aren't that smart, I don't want to even hear about it because you must be a liar and your system/experience sucks!
Well... You have bad grammar/punctuation! Etc...

LOL. Funny! I have learned, to be on MFK you have to be a thick skinned douche sometimes. While it would be awesome to be able to try and help others, share ideas/opinions, and debate civilly, MFK members (many of them... not all) sit on a high chair and are VERY closed minded and biased.

Let's go back to elementary school my friend- what you have highlighted is called punctuation. I was referring to your grammar, which is so bad that some of your ideas are incoherent. Below are a few examples:

“I'm suck with number”
“It's solely about someone's interested...”
“Fish is suffer in whatever size tank you keep it!”
“Isn't that why they prohibit to release fish that has been in tank back into lake or river?”
“Neither you brag about your fish, nor share any idea.”

This last one is pure poetry:

“There's nothing to do with the fish in fishkeeping.”

What does it have to do with if not the fish? Birds? This is not birdkeeping.

But let's get back on topic. Did you read about how plants like nitrates? Be a little more open-minded and you might actually learn something.

Loved this ^. It was HILARIOUS!!!:ROFL:Add this one to your list: "Noone can make other looks dumb... You are who you are!" LMAO!!!!:ROFL:Keep the flaming coming!

To the OP I love your tank and fishes. The huge albino ID shark is awesome and your aro looks NICE! I would love to see/hear more about your filtration system. 8 weeks without waterchanges with those parameters would be awesome!
