These threads are always entertaining but truly pointless. Everybody has an opinion but it is just that...an opinion. What I truly find entertaining is when people start posting like what they are saying is the end all absolute answer and fact. Something like this that is being discussed doesn't have a direct answer like " what is 2 + 2?" If we spent more time trying to understand others points of view, even if we may not agree with them we might actually learn something.
As far as my opinion....I do see the similarities in keeping the whales in captivity and keeping fish in aquariums. I also see the slippery slope that is created if we start designating which animals its ok the keep, breed, eraditcate (bugs) due to lack of intelligence.

This isn't a word, but you are a speciest (racist but of species) if you feel that one living thing is more important then another. Who are you to decide this, a god?
Partly opinion and partly justification issues. Most people don't want to believe they could be doing something similar to big faceless sea world and can not be allowed to be in the same shadow. It soothes the guilt.
No one, well specifically, said the word torture. But if an animal is dumb enough to be kept in a glass box, then why would it smart enough to not diserve torture? (This is your reasoning)....And it is also arguable that keeping fish (especially overstocked) is torture
If you're referring to me, stop putting words in my mouth. I'm against the keeping of whales in captivity and exploiting them for the entertainment business. Period. End of story. You guys are the ones comparing them to an oscar in a fish tank and drawing all these ridiculous conclusions. You're the one that said I should kill my dog because I don't like the idea of Sea World keeping whales in a pool. I'm not making the determination that one animal is more important than another. That would imply one lives and one dies. Calling me a hypocrite because I think it's wrong to keep whales in captivity while I have a pet dog at home is a braindead, strawman argument.
