Tenecor Nightmare

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yup very plainly not damage from shipping but from manufacturing.

What is very interesting is that poop travels uphill whereas a company is involved. Companies think they can poop where they eat and sleep in the bed of their consumers and then think that it will not get out(even funnier in the age of the net).

Personally I know after lifting my last 2 300g tanks -8ft and 10ft that I most definitely will be going acrylic for anything that size in the coming days and there will be more than a few tanks involved.

So thanks for posting up this thread will make sure that this company is one that I have no dealings with and will make sure that any other people that I have connection with who happen to be in the market for large acrylic tanks know these guys should be avoided at all costs.

so heres the response i got from TENECOR today. 2.5 weeks after i sent them pictures of how the tank looked like. seems like they are are not taking responsibility regarding this issue and rather blaming it on the shipping company. what a terrible company to deal with.

Thank you for your email.

Since our last conversation, we have been attempting to assist you in processing a claim with the shipper. I say, “assist you”, because our terms and conditions, with regards to the product, are “FOB Shipping Point”. This means, from the time the freight company picks up the product at our facility, it is no longer our responsibility. As per these same terms and conditions, it is the responsibility of the person receiving the shipment to thoroughly inspect the product for damage before accepting the shipment from the shipping company, which is expressed with your (or your agent’s)signature. Unfortunately, the person who signed for the shipment in this case, appears to have done so without inspecting it first (presuming the damage happened in transit).

That being said, we have been attempting to assist you by providing the shipping company with the initial information to begin the process, and are at their mercy as they work through “their” process. Shortly, I will send you the paperwork. If the shipping company accepts responsibility, they will send you an insurance check and you will need to discuss with them directly the logistics, including responsibility (cost) and method involved in sending the product back to us for repair, which you will be responsible to pay for.

I would also like to reiterate, this is not a “warranty” matter. The tank left our dock, following inspection and signature by the shipping company, undamaged. Your damage clearly occurred at some point in transit, upon arrival, or post-arrival, as a result of an undetermined amount of impact to one corner of the aquarium. The shock was absorbed at the sight where the damage occurred, as illustrated in the pictures you provided.

I will shortly forward you all of the information in our possession for you to be able to follow up on your claim. Please contact me when you are ready to ship the product back to us for repair and we will make this a priority."

SO THE MORAL STORY OF ALL THIS. DO NOT BUY FROM TENECOR!

That small piece that fell out would have taken some of the attached acrylic with it as it was smashed out if it was done in transit due to the bonding agent used to weld acrylic together. If it had been an impact after construction you would have had significant damage at other points around the missing chip.
An impact strong enough to break acrylic that thick and break off a chunk that big would have caused significant cracking to the other edges.
Anyone who has ever worked around any material that is very strongly bonded to another, like bonded acrylic or metal using welding, knows that when an impact occurs at a specific point along a seam then damage radiates out and the removed splinter always removes a piece of the welded edges with it. It is impossible not to when products are welded and the seam basically becomes a solid piece with the bonded edges (think metal welding, easiest one for people to understand).
I would pay another acrylic company to do an inspection on the tank and write a report, give this report to Tenacor and make sure you keep refuting that it was caused in transit. They are talking out their back sides. STAND YOUR GROUND, THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO FOB YOU OFF WITH THE CHEAPEST SOLUTION.

Just out of curiosity, do you not have consumer protection laws in the USA?
Tenacor would not be able to get away with that here, signing for a product here in the UK is just to say you had received it no matter what a company tries to say about not inspecting it.

Another Tenecor horror story .....Don't give up and stand your ground as everybody suggested. Good luck and keep us posted.

...And guys.....when it comes to ordering tanks do yourselves a favor and buy from Midwest . I just bought a 315 (see my signature) and was cheaper at 3/4" acrylic then Tenecor @ 1/2" , came faster and in flawless condition, excellent communication.

dude, fill that ***** up and tap it on the crack, take pictures and sue there asses for damages to EVERYTHIN!
that is NOT shipping damage. DONT let them push you around like that man! you spent the money for a good tank and thats the ONLY thing you should stand for!
i would be up there ass every second untill they took responsibility for this screw up.
dont give up!!!

Can't say I'm surprised. They are absolutely correct about FOB shipping-point. I work in Finance so I'm used to hearing these terms. By going through with the sale you accepted their terms and conditions. Crappy situation, but that's what happens when you have a very expensive tank shipped to a buddy's house where he wasn't even able to inspect it. If I had paid thousands for a tank, I'd make SURE to take the day off from work and be there to inspect that tank inside and out before the shipper stepped foot off my property. I really don't see this having a favorable outcome for you.

Damn Mike, i'm sorry to hear that this tank turned out to be a nightmare.. :( Well i hope Tenecor will do something to fix it but from the looks of it they're trying to wash their hands of all blame..:irked: If you need any help trying to fix it, IF you end up having to.. Let me know the next time you're down, we can run to TAP Plastics in Lynnwood and they have all you'll need to fix it up right. I've had to fix a few tanks and they've done me right every time..

That won't get you anywhere. They specifically exclude any sort of property damage from their warranty. This would turn into a legal battle exceeding the cost of the tank, and you'd still end up losing:

This warranty is limited to replacement of the aquarium and does not cover fish loss, personal injury, property loss or direct, incidental or consequential damage arising out of use of this aquarium. Tenecor liability to the purchaser is limited to the replacement value of the tank. By purchasing and operating an aquarium from Tenecor you acknowledge and accept the risks of any accidents and/or damage arising from misuse, poor maintenance, incorrect setup/installation, and on going usage.

and

Under no circumstance will Tenecor be held responsible for any damages caused by defective products or for incidental or consequential damages, or for loss incurred from manufacture, sale, use, or misuse of these products.

well even though im a loyal customer to tenecor, not anymore.

seems like they wont be doing anything about this. yes i should have been there to accept the tank in person but what is done is done. this clearly shows the lack of care that company has for their clients after they take payment.

mike, im trying to contact a local plastics place here to see what they can do. i will let you know know though thanks!

sorry to hear of your problem with tenecor. i have had sililar issues and now drive from utah to pick up my tanks in person.like you mentioned, always great communication untill you pay, then it stops.
IF you have to keep this tank i would recommend going to your local plastics store and getting some acrylic glue. I had a similar issue with a acrylic tank and i used a 2 part epoxy/acrylic glue and filled in the chip and after the glue had set 48 hours i used a sander and sanded the glue smooth and then buffed around the glue and it was barely noticeable and very strong.i believe the glue was a 2 part #42 and #40.a google search will give you a good start. hpe this helps and good luck with tenecor.
