Save my female henlei!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is very sad. I had the pair since pups. It has sucked up here with the storm and power fails everywhere. I which i would have known. I lost power about the same time but have generator back-up. I could have baby sat them until things got back to normal. We were out of power over 24 hours. I could never trust the power in my area with all my rays life's depending on it. So sorry Byran.

maybe a silly ? but do you have heater guards as this is a mistake many ray keepers make no guard but as its a 500 gal you must have a sump and the heaters were in that

something thats worth keeping to hand when you get power cuts is seachem stability this kicks the good bacteria up fast

also a worth whale investment is a 240-12v inverter you can run power from your car or like i have one connected to 4 x big van battery's put it on a trickle charge and you always have power when you need it the 4 x bats can run 1 big pump 1 air pump and a heater for 8 hours

I'm not a great lover of the drip system as its best to dump a few jugs of water in the polybox then lift the ray in the tank i feel its less stress than opening a polybox then leaving the ray in the box for a further few hours

long shipping get the ray in as fast as poss as the water in your tank will be much better than the box for short shipping in and out no stress the ray wont even know its been moved

i hope things get better for you but a form of power backup is a must for high priced fish no point in waiting for it to happen and wish you had a small generator or inverter best to be safe than sorry

Sorry to hear.
As stated earlier. Generators are a necessity at least to me. I can run all three of my systems, fridge and freezer when necessary. If my power goes out and I call the power company and they say at least 2-3 hours, I hook mine up.
As for as the blisters, does ammonia burn cause blisters?

looks like ammonia burn to me. the bb died off when without waterflow/oxygen for 24 hours. really sad. sorry for the loss.

Ok for transport Jim had some 28"x18" rubbermaid tubs one in each with battery air pumps and they were in the car for 1:45hrs and then I drip acclimated for 2 hrs and in they went.

I don't think my bb died since I just pulled all 20l of pond matrix out and tossed it in the tank with 2 air pumps on the sponge filters.

The tank can probably handle the bio load since I just got rid of 5 big p.bass, 1 African pike, 1 pike cichlid, 1 blood parrot, 1 massive ornate birchir. Only thing left are 4 gar and an African pike.

The reason I don't think ammonia has anything to do with it... They are spots, it didn't affect the whole ray or even a whole area on the disc. They were isolated blisters that would pop and then fall off in a nasty piece. Under the blister, the rays disc would look perfect.

Dude! Ur beneficial bacteria will start dieing off after 1hr of the power being off. So 24hrs without ur sump running killed ur BB! It could very well be ammonia burn. I feel so bad for ur hen's, and really bad for jimr. Maybe u shoulda started with a less expensive ray, bc it looks like u need to read up and research some more .
