75 G. PLEASE, I NEED HELP choosing Eheim canister ASAP!

Tank is 4ft L x 18inches W x 20 inches High.

I need to online-order Eheim canister filtration!

Q: Which model & size? Never owned an Eheim.
I usually figure on having "4 times the capacity" which a filter claims, as the bare minimum.
Is that true of Eheim canisters?

Considerations:

Don't trust/want FULL digital, but prefer self priming.
Not mechanically inclined & have NO patience with it when fish are at stake.
I can't just run to a local store like people in big cities.

1. Want 'overkill' possible. Should I get two small canisters or one really big? Want most bang for my buck, now.
2. Need *simple access/maintenance: my first canister. I'm used to being able to dabble with media- like rinse before replacing, do partial changes etc.
3. We DO get power interruptions! Do all Eheims automatically restart?
4. Can't afford any(more) house floods...saying this bcuz I saw posts about canisters flooding.
5. Substrate is fine sand=want bottom evenly swept clean, but not piled against sides.
If "accessories" are needed for flow control, direction, etc. plz be specific. I am old school, not new to fish but this is my largest tank so far. planning a bigger one soon. I have to upgrade my understanding of equipment.
6. Hoping to spawn Geo redheads when mature.

I posted more info about my setup in previous thread question, but got no answers. :confused:
 
What fish are going to be in the tank? How much $$$ is the limit? Can you afford two classic 2217's? Or at least one 2217 and one 2215?

I'd strongly prefer more than one single filter on this size tank.
 
Well, I can tell you a 2217 by itself probably won't be enough for a 75 as far as mechanical filtration goes--I have one on about that much water volume myself.
 
@Dlz: thanks for reply, but fx5 isn't eheim ;-) & really trying to narrow down choices.

@arodini & aclockworkorange: now growing out 7 geo tapajos redheads, and a pair of A. heckelii which will probably have to separate later. Hope to spawn redheads. Looking to add healthy BGK at least 6-7 inches. This tank for interesting behaviors, not aggressive.
I could afford two 2217's, still unsure of their maintenance 'take-apart' & priming difficulty? Also eyeing the 2075. can't afford two of those all at once. but it looks simpler in some ways.
Anyone used both models?

I do have filtration now, don't like it. Am tweaking it since it's already there, and doing 25% water changes every other day. water tests good, fish growing & already have a WC routine: pig out on chopped earthworms, go to their WC "hangout corner", then party! It's funny. I think they love me. ROFL.
 
derp..uh, what was i thinking? reading what i want to i guess, haha.
i used to run the classic 2217 and loved it. you should get 2. one for mechanical filtration and polish. the other one just fill up with bio media. link both out flow tubes into one over sized spray bar and keep the intakes in both ends of the tank. should do nicely for 75 gals.
dont know much about their newer style filters tho.
 
I take it there are both fx5 & eheim classic fans! well I read somewhere that the eheim outworks fx5... whereas fx5 does seem more along the lines of eheim 2075, 'cept more affordable.

Petco has "online" sale price now for the 2217's &159.99 ea. Is that good? I wonder if their walk-in stores are same price? My husband just found out he has to do a quick turnaround drive to Ranch Cucamonga tomorrow, coming back friday.

@Dylz, can you be more specific about that "over sized spray bar"? length & how big-around for my tank. Would be great if I could get him to pick it all up for me and not have the mail order wait... but the online sale saves like 25% and free shipping.
