why dont people listen?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
^ One of the few... but you are also still here keeping fish too, that says a lot.

Thanks i do it 2 all 3 of my tanks at the same time its the best way to do in my mind. I do a 40 - 50% water change every 4 days to make sure my fish have a happy and healthy home like they need. People that let there tanks get to the point you cant see in is just dumb. They are lazy and don't care and the people that don't wanna take good advice are the ones that are lazy as hell and think they are right about everything. They need a fish book 101

It also doesnt help that almost every packaging for tank will show 5 goldfish in a 10g. the one my neighbor had showed on the box like 8 blue gouramis. if ur new to fish keeping and even if you really do want to try and do it right stuff like that and labels at petstores dont help. im gonna slap the next employee that says grow to size of the tank.

Clearly you were wrong, I have two oscars in a 29 gallon and they are thriving. Next time get your facts straight before you give advice. runs and hides before the lynch mobs gets wind of it.

While it's true that some just don't listen, I think more often than not, it's also the one giving the advice. They talk fast and in rocket science lingo and assume that everyone is understanding what they are talking about. When I teach a noob about fish keeping, I automatically assume they are an idiot and I talk very slowly, I write it out in crayon using ABC, etc. In other words, I don't just throw them the reigns and leave them to hang themselves like so many condescending fish experts do. I make sure they get it.

What it took a few days for the wizard who taught me, I can teach someone else in 10 mins. Fish keeping is very simple, so why do some make it out to be so complicated. Keep It Simple Stupid KISS!!!
YEA THEY ARE PROBABLY LIKE 5 INCH AT MAX IF THEY ARE THRIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PEOPLE USED TO GET MAD AT ME FOR KEEPING AN OSCAR IN A 65 GAL 3FT TANK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOW I KEEP MINE IN A 75 GALLON 4FT TANK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Possibly due to conflicting information and not knowing who to believe. Or possibly because of this conflicting information, they will listen to a LFS employee before they will listen to a fish keeping friend.

To be honest it took a while for me to start listening.

:clap

but at least you started.

Listen, in all honesty, I don't know of any fish keeper who didn't make mistakes and "kill" some fish at some point in time, myself included. It's the nature of the learning process to push the limits and "fail' before you see the light and understand what you've been told the whole time.

Unfortunately, experience sometimes means more than someone else's words and opinions and it's something most of us go through. If you are one of the few who haven't ever lost a fish or made a mistake, then you are a good listener. lol

This is very true I have Lost fish when I had a ammonia spike and didn't realize it till it was to late and lost 3 fish in 2 days. But now i check my water once a week and do my cleaning every 4 days. I learned from my mistakes and I am still learning will continue to learn till i get out of the hobby which I don't think that will happen for a long time

Not sure your listening yet. Your current thread that was closed because you wanted to kill fish to cure ick which isnt needed. You wil learn as you go

c'mon....while I absolutely agree he's had a some threads closed because he didn't listen to good sound advice, nobody's perfect and sometimes it takes awhile for things to sink in.........

At least he's on here asking questions and starting a billion threads about the same thing, as opposed to just going about his business killing every fish he buys without a care in the world.........if he didn't care or wasn't confused he wouldn't post so damn much......babysteps.........

If only I had a place like this to learn from when I made a bazillion mistakes during the learning process, which never truly ends IMO. Know-it alls are the ultimate form of failure IMO .......thinking you've learned it all is a dangerous place to exist because you're not open to the possibility you've had it "wrong" all along....

he's trying to figure it out, and that deserves a "little" credit. Positive energy goes a lot farther than negative energy...........
