jd and con problem :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thats how mine was i have a male convict and a jack dempsey at first the convict ruled the tank but now my jack dempsey scares the crap out of it i have no idea when she got so strong but YOU GO GIRL! lol now none of them really harm the other the just have a stare down and the convict backs off -.-

sounds like we have the same fish rofl

if they r nipping at each other should i be worried about their fins? or are they used to it lol

So long as the damage doesn't go too far down the base of the fin, odds are they'll grow back just fine in a healthy tank where the aggression is spread.

Nah, they were there as dithers. That's always a gamble when putting them in with cichlids.

Indeed. Slimmer tetras seemed too tame for mine (They're off and happy in a planted). Longfin danios lasted over a year. They actually learned the territories and would torpedo around the tank to the edge of a spawn site, tease the convict pair, and jet away. The convicts got to the point where they wouldn't even acknowledge them. I'd feed rosy reds, and the danios would actually go after them alongside the jd's & convicts, with no confusion as to who was getting bitten. (same size and shape) They survived until I tried weaning the jd's to pellets... When they got hungry enough (5-8 days) I'd hear loud pops and smacks at night, and be short a danio by morning.

I had 2 female convict siblings lay and guard eggs. I have 4 female Convict x Cutteri that lay eggs and guard them.

Had a male convict reign in 2 females for a double spawn inside and outside of the same small pot. Currently have a 1.25" female that stalks a 4"+ spawning pair getting in the middle of everything... She'll pick fights with intruders, flare up, and shake... Eventually has to run when all 4 fish realize she's the easy target. Lately she's been trying to court a male jd that could literally swallow her. :screwy:
