how big of a tank would i need....

I don't know about that, there's a 15", maybe 16" Tiger Oscar at the LFS.

Have you measured it yourself, out of the water? I'm not doubting your word but looks can be very deceiving, especially inside a glass tank filled with water your size perception might be way off. It's not uncommon to see a thick, tall bodied fish that is around 12" (which is very large compared to what one usually sees) and overestimate its size.

Most Oscars tend to average around 12-13" and there has been a few reports of specimens growing past 16" but it's not the norm. I think a 75 gal tank is enough for a single O, and that's the generally accepted minimum requirement.

I agree with you about the size of the big O but do you think a 120 gallon with work for the stock he wants ???

Actually the Oscar is in a large tub, and he's never been measured that i know of, although if i was given the chance to, i don't even think i would, because the Oscar is being housed with huge ID sharks, that were traded in, except for 1 that i rescued; a 30"+ Albino ID..





I do agree a 75 gallon is a good size for an adult Oscar because the width is 18", but with the bow front, at some parts of the tank, the width is only 13", and i just don't think that's enough for an adult Oscar.

i sold everything today and bought an 1" Lutino Oscar, got £42 for my fish and spent £4.60 on my pathetically scrawny and small but awesome Oscar.

Hes eating like crazy already, hes to small for my Pellets yet so feeding him flake for the time being.

I wanted a bigger one but they only had black bigger ones and i really wanted lutino because my decor, gravel and background are dark.

i'm in love lol, i've named him Rodney

Congrats, I would consider getting a bigger tank in a few months, even if it's just a regular 75 with 18 inches wide all around. He's gonna grow an inch a month
