The Most 3D Backgrounds on MFK--Build Thread?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ahh Dam 150$ for a 6x2 =( 2.5 for a 2x2 =( Man living down here is such a pain!!! I might have to just get a big order shipped out here. Its crazy I was speaking to someone else about roseline sharks about 10-15 in the states 100+ over here anyways highjacking again! good luck with the backgrounds and look foword to seeing them all up and "running" !

They do look great, but prices definitely are far from cheap... i guess i'm spoilt living in Hong Kong, where China copies all these types of things and sell them for a fraction of the price... i think my 24" X 24" 3D background was something like USD $2.5 and the nicer more expensive ones were like USD 25 for a piece that was roughly 36" X 24"...

Although obviously the one i bought is not nearly as nice as those ones shown here, but i'm sure its just a matter of time before their workmanship gets better and i might start seeing nicer pieces in HK for dirt cheap prices...

I have SW reef friends that spend more on one coral or one month of electricity than one of these big backgrounds costs. I have a hard time understanding the penny pinching I see in the freshwater community sometimes. I understand we're not all made of money, but I'm trying to take it to the next level constantly. I get bored otherwise. Eat noodles for a month or something. ;)
No personal offense bud, still love your paludarium!

Also, one of my other hobbies is riding motorcycles. When you're looking to buy a bike, you should factor in the cost of a good helmet and protective jacket and boots... As it's said in that hobby, if you can't afford the gear you can't afford the bike. I look at these backgrounds as just another part of the overall cost of a tank setup. If you think of it that way it will hurt your wallet less. :)
Of course, there are plenty of FW tanks I like without backgrounds, but most of them are planted or just have really great aquascaping. These make it so you can have a pretty great looking tank with minimal talent in those other areas. ;)

I'm super stoked to see this thread. Great job Jeff, and you are absolutly right about the penny pinching thing. I don't get it either. I have no 3D backgrounds, but this isent due to cost, its due to being impatiant when setting up a tank. If I have a tank it dosent sit empty long enough for me to wait for a background. But I have an empty 125, and my built in 29, and a seperate 20L that I plan on putting b/g in. All because of your tanks. Next time I come down, I'm bringing my wife so she can see how great these look in tanks. Great job and keep the pics coming.

Trust me, I know how that is bud! Bring the wife down any time. Should have some of these running soon enough.
One option for you guys with tanks running is buying the panel backgrounds and installing magnets on them. Then just drop them in the tank and you're pretty much ready to go.
