Keep a close watch on your friends

sounds a bit like my house, there is one of those horrible plug in air fresheners in just about every room, i'm continually switching them off....i hate the stuff.

I hate those! I was using that nasty glade spray stuff for awhile when I first moved into my apartment, because the last tenants were smokers and there was a nasty, "funky" smell through out the place. Thank god it's warm enough to just leave the windows open now.

One neat thing you could suggest instead, is pick up some of those scented pinecones. They are all over around Christmas, but you can usually find them at some craft stores. Put one in a couple of the air vents around your house, or just leave a couple in a basket or something in one or two rooms (depending on the size of your house). Leaves a nice smell, not over-powering perfume-y or flowery, and no nasty chemicals in the air.

Wow I feel lucky I've never had problems like what you all talk about. Any friends I ever had over have been deeply respectful of my property and animals. The worst I ever had was when I had to go out of state for a week. Came back to a tank filthy, and over-fed bloated Sarasa Comets. I had to put them on a diet for over a week just to get them healthy and the mess in the tank was a nightmare. I'm still a nervous wreck when I have to go out of state. I've been training up the person who looks after my tank and educating them. It's frustrating though how people will stupidly feed a fish every time it "Looks hungry".

I was going to say I've been lucky too but it hasn't been luck at all. It's that my friends/family know better than to mess with my fish. They enjoy watching them but would never do anything I didn't specifically tell them to do. Plus, most of my tanks are down in the "mancave" in the basement. I don't let many people even go down there.

My friend had a party in high school. Great night till we woke up and found a half dozen open beers in the 180g reef. Everything dead, corals fish shrimp and small sharks. Bet it was 10g in livestock dead, even the live rock had to be replaced and about 6 years later the tank finally looks right again wi corals starting to fill in.

My fish tanks are in the master bedroom of my house, 5' away is a 12 gauge pump and a .45 subcompact w/ ballistic hollowpoints, i have a commercial grade led keypad lock on my door and only 2 people know the code (me and my gf) anyone that knows me knows not to mess with my property. Although that didnt stop someone from stealing my webber gas grill and propane tank last week! Ive always wanted to move my piranha tank behind my bar downstairs but i know some drunk shinanigans will eventually take place and someone will lose a finger or kill my fish with their stupidity, so i keep everything i love as close as possible to avoid these situations!

Its a pretty simple rule: dont touch what ISNT yours!

lost a gold xb with a gold helmet and level 5 shine because of my dad's duma$ friend...

my old man and his friend went fishing and caught some fishes by the pier and came by my house to stop by and see my tank i didnt mind since i didnt think anyone would do anything stupid hence the age i thought i was a given... i talk with my old man for a second and use the bathroom real quick to come back to see my xb eating something... i asked what it was and my old man's buddy says "oh i just fed it the smallest fish we caught"... i raged and *****ed at the man for his stupidity when i turned around and saw my xb floating around lifelessly in the middle of the tank... what ever that fish had was poisonous and almost instant death for my poor xb... one of the worst days of my life...

jeez, good stories and "lessons learned". i have a lot of traffic in my bedroom but i keep as close an eye as possible. my mom tells the entire neighborhood about my aquariums and every week somebody i never met knocks on my door and asks to see my aquarium. i never let them if my folks aint around. I'm just worried now because i have a gar who takes shrimp from my hand and if some less-than-intellegant individual tries to taunt it then they might(most likely) get bit. then they might try to sue or something so I'm not even going to anyone but some family members and very close friends(the two that are in the same hobby as i) see my aquariums. the last run-in i had was i walked in on my mom trying to feed a calipillar to my cichlids that she found in the garden. i don't know if thats bad or not but I've always fed them earthworms and maybe that is where she had the idea. my brother also fed my jd a lightning bug to see if it would light up. nothing happened to the fish nor did he light up.

Whilst living in my frat house in college i had a little 20 gal long with a breeding pair of neolamprologus caudopunctatus. I came back from class to find a bunch of idiots crowding around my 29gal fry tank and laughing.hysterically. They poured a steel reserve tallboy into the tank that easily had 50-60 half inch babies in it and found their death spasms hilarious. I kicked them out and threatened all of them with a good whooping with a lead pipe. Two days later i came back and someone bleached both tanks, i subseqyently moved out and never went around again.
