to each his own. My nitrates stay between 5 an 10 on all my tanks. I have no issues there. Your correct your water has no BB.. but it does produce bacteria.. no matter what you do.. chemicals from your water lines, water system will be in your new water. You seem to already be an expert so you got it down. No need for me to try an help you out. If you think your reds color is brilliant that is all what matters. They are your fish. none of mine have ever looked like that though. You def. did them right by saving them from the 30g. You got them in a 400g now right? That's much better. Good job man

The reason why i do it: I KEEP A CONSTANT SUPPLY OF FOOD IN THE TANK THEREFOR AT NITE I VAC IT ALL UP SO IT DOESNT FOUL THE WATER, 40-50% IS USUALLY HOW MUCH COMES OUT! You both said at this age a constant amount of food is beneficial, and if its always had constant wc it should be acclimated to them, and i know i dont have to do this i just want a healthy adult rhom someday.

Mfnryan-im no expert, im constantly learning and reading and i appreciate ur opinions (thats why i started this thread) i just dont think u previously understood my habbits; tank is barebottom and only 1 tiny fish in it so there is a decent amount of left overs and i dont like nasty old food and crap on the bottom! My 90gal rbp tank i do 40-50% every 4-5 days to keep nitrates at 25-35ppm but the tank has waayyy stronger filtration! And no 400 lol, 180gal after i pay my property taxes and save up a little, so 2 monthsish! And then my 90gal will be a PERFECT habbitat for my rhom for the next few years of his life :)

Again thanks for all the advice, new pics this weekend!

I just don't see why half your tanks water comes out to suck up some left over pellets and shrimp/talipia

I've got no beef with you or your regiment. I just want other members who may be new to know its not necessary.

Lol. 10gal w/ 8gals actually in it isnt alot of water

Id rather have newbies to PIRANHAS do more wc then little to none at all! Especially when new to the hobby and piranhas, you dont realize how much waste and messYness they produce.

And my vac is meant for my 90 so it sucks water out real fast, and im at work for 12-15 hours at a time so i make sure there is always a food source for him.

He is seriously beefing up with this method and NLS as a staple! Id reccomend this way to anyone

A single piranha at that size is not as messy as you're making it out to be. Lol. You plan on doing this OCD style of water changes when you move it to a larger tank?

Lol hes pretty messy, he picks up 2" chunks of talapia and aggressivly tears it up, and also hunts 1" ghosties like a champ!

Call it ocd if u want but i consider it a healthy habbit and in the 3+ weeks hes showing great signs of health and color.

Im not saying its neccesary or practical, and im not saying i did anything better then you for my rhom, i just really cherish this guy and daily maintanence IMO will ensure a good long happy life!

Your fish are awesome man btw

And no a larger tank is more stable and by then hes big enough to do a everyother day 2 min feeding session, hes so small now that hes a baby and isnt big enough to work hard for food, this way hes ALWAYS got a selection of food, i plan on utilizing this regimine for the next month then once hes my 90 @ about 3" or so ill cut down to about 40% per week for a projected 10-20ppm nitrates
