Growthrate and max size- Marbles vs Motoro

How can you keep a big ray in a small tank and maintain quality water? You can't
When I first bought a ray I kept a motoro in a 75 gallon for 3 years. He never grew much ,his tank size was the reason. It was impossible to keep water good , so I beleive Also , that small volume of water is more likely to be the factor why they are not growing, but also I don't beleive if you did find a way to maintain water pristine that the ray would grow 20" in a 16" wide tank? Maybe I did see some hens in a pet shop 10 years ago here lol

change water change water.
that's all, change water.....even 95% twice or more per day....
the smaller the tank the more (and more often) you need to change water

That's one Db ....

Skynoch ordered his marbles with another friend of mine his got about the size of my boesemani is and produced amazing pups ,quality of what I see you guys call "aaa"
They were all nice marbles very stunning when the first got them dbjunkie. They got big like rays do and faded. I look at some of these pics on this post and see 15" marbles in tanks 24" wide ? The nice marbles are only nice because they are yet to fade due to the confines of the tanks size. I do beleive you guys have a strain going around that maybe smaller, but I still guarantee they will get 20" at least and won't look as good as they did when they were 8"

Crazyfish88 you said your rays "only "grew a few inches in a few months. That's a crazy growth rate dude. But in my 8 years experience keeping rays they grow quickest from about when they get to the size yours are 10" ,than it seems they explode 4-5" in a year

Was there actually a pic posted somewhere? No, there wasn't. That's what this is about - proving something. I asked Scott about HIS ray. Not you. IF you want to share pics of your Marbles, please feel free. But how do we know it's not just like JohnGs?

You sit on your little soap box telling everyone how big thier rays will get and truth is you don't know. I'm down in my little hole simply asking for pics of all the big rays I hear about and never see.

We come from different schools apparently. I use the internet to track rays. I watch other peoples Marbles grow. I truley enjoy this species and pay attention to other peoples just to see if what they are finding the same things I am. I don't use unreliable fishing sites like the ones you link us to that say record for fishing Falks is 30CM...... We both know there's no way that's right eh?

Post pics of mine? Ha. Nobody needs to see my faded stunted improperly cared for rays.

You act as though you deserve a feather in your cap cause we may have found ONE 2' Marble. WTH would happen if we were looking for 3'ers? Should be some out there right? Cause they max out at 4' right?

The problem with the internet is all the second hand garbage info out there. Usually started from "my buddy" stuff. If all the info was actually first hand, like owners sharing the findings of thier own animals in all honesty, but instead we have second hand info built up and shared just to contradict what someone else is saying.

Db your a moron you truly are.
It started as you stating that marbles are smaller than motoro than everybody proved you wrong . Now only the nice marbles are the ones that stay small. Give me a break buddie. Stop putting your foot in your own mouth. Everything with you is a fight or arguement. I see you treat guys like crap on here enough. Again and again . You've contradicted yourself. You went from marble expert to not having much experience with them in one post in the matter of days. Good on yah, I never kept marbles but it seems to make no difference fighting with you, theirs little or no point. You got proved wrong again eat it

Db your a moron

I know. Maybe I'd be better off telling everyone how to keep thier rays, then go from thread to thread regurgitating information about other peoples' rays, while dropping some conflicting information along the way.

It's a tragedy I'm even allowed to have rays isn't it?

I should probobly just do the same as most seasoned raykeepers and stay the heck off this site and useless senseless arguements brought forth by people that are here for the sole purpose of irritating other people........ Kinda like a hemroid.

I should just go away and let you continue to grace this section of the forum with your wealth of knowledge, afterall you've done more for this forum in the last couple years then any other member I can think of. Who cares if it's for the better or not, the important part is you've made your mark. I can't think of anyone here that has single handedly contributed more senseless arguements over the years then anyone else. Congrats on that. :)

Everything any body knows on this site some body else has said before, at least some have experience to back it up or actually know for a fact. I don't need photos but I did post a picture of a 80lbs 40" motoro

You win man.

This is worse then the RO/Tap remineralization thread. You need to brush up on your reading skills. Problem is your so quick to fire off responses that you don't even read what other people write.

I know Motoros get big. Like 80 lb big, the whole point here is that marbles don't get as big. Nobody proved anyone wrong. You just seem to be stuck on that fact that since marbles have Motoro in the name that they get as big. It's no different then someone going out and buying a Mini Pincher and expecting it to grow as big as a normal Doberman

I'm seriously done. The people keeping Marbles know what I was trying to get across but instead this has just turned into a ..... Well it turned out the same way most threads you chime in on do. Either locked or ignored cause it's not worth reading cause it turns into an argument just to argue, regardless of what the original topic even was.

Growth rates are much more to do with food amounts and quality, water quality and filtration, and stress factors such as crowding or predator companion fish, than tank size.
In fact I think the tank size/growth thing is otherwise largely myth.
If a fish is stunted due to being in a small tank, it is probably because of insufficient food and bad water quality rather than because of the small environment.

Can you repost that link? Didn't work for me. I do enjoy the links you share. If you posted it, I'm sure it's a good read, when the link works..... :)

It's hard to say about size without pics because what some people class as marble motoro are just standard motoro in my eyes

I would class the good grade marbles like DB and aquaman have as the ones that stay small and keep the marble paturn all the life

Normal motoro do get massive but most people don't keep them long enought to see the full size which is why I started a thread to find out what happens to them all

I do think a lot of normal motoro are stunted by tank size

I have seen the big motoro frank and Nico have in the mega tank and trust me I don't know any house tank that could house it 36 inch disk I think is a under estimate
