Uaru fernandezyepezi - round 2

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
One week update....

Lost 4 in the first 3 days. Not sure why - it's like they decided to sit on the bottom and stop breathing. The rest have been eating well. However, only 5 fattened up. The other are still very skinny, and a couple of them probably won't last long....skins and bones. Started metro today (dissolve metro in water then soak freeze dried black worms in it). I'll be very happy if 8-9 can make it, but will settle for 5-6...

Sorry to hear about the losses but I know you went in ready for battle. Between these and the retroculus you must have your hands full.

I for one am humbled to acknowledge that I will never own this species.

darn... sorry to hear that.
i guess this is the unfortunate story that many of the wild caught aquarium fish share when they are first brought in. they go through weeks of stress at the exporters, importers this and that and by the time they arrive at their final destination even the most experienced aquarists can't save them :(
crossing our fingers for you!

You never know Ed! I didn't think I'd ever get my hands on Retroculus.

Sorry for your losses Pete. These guys wild caught are hard to take care of huh?.. I hope you end up still with a nice size group :)

Thanks guys. This is fully expected, I'd be more than happy if half of them make it in the end. Started Prazi Friday the rest are still hanging in there. They started to refuse metro-soaked freeze dried black worms though, probably because of the weird test, lol. They are now on frozen worms and romaine lettuce.

I still use the powdered, pure Praziquantel. I do one treatment, leave it in the tank for several hours, and then do a large water change. In the discus hobby at least, you're only using it for flatworms (namely tapeworm). If the fish have tapeworms, they should expel them within a few hours and you'll see them on the bottom of the tank. If they do have tapeworms, you can wait a week or so and treat them again.

Usually if the fish are razor thin I start with metronidazole. After a week-long metro treatment, I give them a break for a while, then do the levamisole.

I just looked and didn't see any worms on the bottle. Large wc coming up.
