Anyone NOT use water conditioner/prime ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i used condition on changes for along time and when i ran out one time i didnt replace it. i didnt notice any differences over the course of the next few years of doing water changes of about 25 - 30% a week.

one of my females was knocked up whilst not using conditioner and i got a hma filter mid pregnancy as i wanted filtered water for other purposes. however since i have it i have used it on my ray tanks and will keep doing so. since its already hear i dont see any harm in using it but there didnt seem to be any problems without it and i could see movment in the mother before i started using it.

hope it helps.

I don't use water conditioner. I fill a 50 gallon barrel with tap water, aerate, heat and run a Fluval 205 filter full of carbon for a day and then do the water change. No problems and have had rays breed.

If chlorine is present (or has the potential to be present) and you do nothing to get rid of it then in my opinion you are foolish and potentially cruel. Why subject your rays to this for very little cost, just because they are not dieing doesn't mean they are not suffering.

I have no chloramine in my water and chlorine will gas and dissipate within hours especially if the water is aerated. I use the carbon to remove any metals in the water. I don't think rays would be reproducing if they are stressed and suffering.

Not very practical when a person has over 1000 gallons in tanks to do water changes. Prime is an easy fix and works like a charm.

2 hours to gas off....the damage is done in minutes. Rays have a very strong urge to breed, I think you could put pins in the eyes of a randy male and he would still do the deed.

nope, never use any of that..

Toby- I think you missed the first half of my post. I fill 50 gallon barrels and leave for 24 hours before doing the water change.
