Matt

Sung to House of the rising Sun Try this for your music video and possibile theam song:
There is a house in Mary-land, that's called the chan-chito it's been the ruin of many a poor fry and god I know I had some. Could catch on.

I recently acquired 6- 1.5 inch wild peruvian festae from
Dan at "Cichlids of the Americas", these fish are very out going, not shy at all like some others I have had in the past....He also sent me a photo of a wild adult peruvian pair that he caught at the same time.....I hope he dosen't mind if I post it.....photo.JPG

NICE!

Is that when I hoist myself out of the river into the boat, shirt-less, of course?

Is it common for festae that are only 1.5" to be collected in the wild?
Just curious ......

Just to chime in, I know different colored substrates and decor can coax out certain colors in fish (at least IME). I don't doubt there is some differences between festae collected in different locations, but I also wonder if that could be another factor. Anyone keeping them over black substrate with a black background?

Here is the same fish over dark gravel and then white sand:

I acquired 2 male Festae from a local guy who bred some wild caughts he had a few years back. He had mentioned something about the more recent guys being more of a green, and the ones from years back were more of a maroon. The larger male I sold, and he def more of a green, but the smaller male I have is a dark maroon. Very rarely shows green.

And of course, as soon as I go down to take pics, he decides he wants to be green!

My female, is always a dark red.. Well, she had been since I got her Saturday, and the prev owner said she is always red as well.

My male and female..

The male is kept over white substrate with black background, and the female is substrateless with blue background.

Don't mind the pics, it was feeding time.

I have both species, Peru and Ecuadorian, the ones I currently have are F1+?, hoping to pick up 4 WC Ecuadorian some time this week. I will grow them out and see for myself how they turn out. Personally I like the Ecuadorians, but I have heard the Female Peru is much prettier when wearing the red dress! non the less, this is a good topic, and I am still learning about Festaes.
