I have always thought the same on regional difference. I tend to call the greener type the "old school festae". Most of our bloodlines over here came from an earlier age before they were baned for import and seem to carry the green trait much more then what I see over the net nowadays.

This is the latest pic of my guy. The green seems to be spreading as he ages.

Proof that you don't have to be an F0 snob to have great looking fish.

WOW some really fantastic fish on show in this thread now. Thanks for posting everyone.

The green coloured ( old school ) Festae is beautiful, if it can be confirmed that this is a Peruvian Festae, then this would answer my questions regarding this stunning species.

Im glad that a few others have also wondered or suspected that there may be more than one race of Festae. Thought i might have been looking into it a bit too much at first. Ive never kept festae, but i like to study fish before i decide whether to keep em or not. By this i dont mean just checking eventual size and temperment, i am quite picky with my fish and like to observe for speciic races/types of a species and chose the ones i like best. In this case it may have worked out fine as its the yellow/red Ecuadoran race that im after, which seems to be more readily available.

All in all, this has been a vey intersting thread, which im sure will continue, and i hope we can eventually get to the bottom of it.

Thanks for posting the pictures, theyve been helpful.

Cheers

I personally believe that the mood of the fish, along with lighting and photography play the biggest role. It's also funny that no one is echoing the fact that "different countries don't make different fish"!!!! Lol.
Seemed like no one could get past the reiteration of this fact in a previous thread on the same subject.

I am currently growing out a group of wild juvies from Rio Tumbes in Peru. I will post a progression on them for what it's worth but I don't expect any differences. I personally believe you get out of them what you put into them, point blank. Any talk of observed variations beyond the quality and condition of the fish is mere speculation until someone actually goes, collects, and figures it out on their own.
I can't go but if someone else does, I promise, I will pet your ego and call you the FESTAEKING!!!!

AWESOME ED!

I've recently declared myself CHANCHITOKING!!!! (music video forthcoming...)
