I've only seen wild ecuadorian festae...so I couldn't describe differences
some cichlids - new and old world - are much more variable across their range (eg peacocks or gymnogeophagus) and within a particular population (eg amphilophus) than others. Every location where Texas cichlids are found...
I have often thought there were regional/racial variants of festae, especially after looking at referance material of the 80's and early 90's when the males were all almost a solid green color instead of red like most of todays male festae.
Very interesting, maybe the 'Green' coloured race is the Peruvian race???
As most of the Festae we see theses days, i think are from Ecuador??
I have never seen Peruvian festae offered, its always Wild or F1 Ecudoran Festae for sale.
Would be great if anyone could supply pics of actual Peruvian Festae, or explain why we dont see an Peruvian available, are there collectng issues?

Mine displaying his gold...hes Ecuador-ian, WC from Rapps in 2006. He shows green and other colors as well, this is just his pre-spawn colors for the most part.
Though even greenterra's has less green than the pics I've seen in magazines in those early 90's. The same deep emerald green color as greenterra male's face, but that color all up and down it's body. Though since it was in magazines, who knows what lighting was used, flash, or breeding colors/displays.

I have always thought the same on regional difference. I tend to call the greener type the "old school festae". Most of our bloodlines over here came from an earlier age before they were baned for import and seem to carry the green trait much more then what I see over the net nowadays.
