High price for azuls and kelberi

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
also, nothing makes wild fish more expensive or desirable. either way if there is shipping invovled, they all travel long distance to get here, risking money, life of fish, time invested to get to yours truely.

wild cichla could be caught in a netful from local fisherman in a easy swoop for a few bucks, and would cost less than a breeding pair of cichla kelberi in the US, with cost of electricity, initial investment of fish, years of feeding, rasing the fry, and defending the fish from wives that complain.

Think: the value of money is what one places on it. If you were stranded in a jungle, without food, the hundred dollar bill would be useless, it would be more useful to burn it and start a fire.

same with the cichla, its YOU that dictates the desirability of it, if nobody want it then I wouldn't order them, or try to get them, and there would be no price on it. and if thousands were brought in, they would sell cheap at Petco.

I did breed f1s no one bought them. when I sold the breeding pair he wanted a deal on those. So we the hobbiest are the problem we don't take care of eachother so why would the seller or the importer do something that we don't do for ourseleves.

To answer the OP question $200.00 is the average price for all of W/C collection and I think that was very fair.

Les be serious here 5 years ago it was $1200.00 for a Kelberi and I was told we would never get Azul or Orino.

And all that Gogol talk is another markiting tool to keep you all on the hook. IT MAY HAPPEN ONE DAY BUT by then you will have spent all your money on ugly bahias. lol.

:jaw-dropp:cry:

I'd still like your kelberi more then the orino's. But yes, your orino's took a long time to grow and us true cichla keepers watched them grow in front of our eyes with your weekly updates.

As far as the prices of the kelberi's and the azuls, I think the prices dropped a lot since 07-08. Simple supply and demand. BUT, I'm not all for vendors calling captive bred cichla WC. There are a couple of captive bred cichla I wouldn't mind having and/or hybrids to.

To me, if the bass looks good, get um no matter the cost.
Well my point being peter $20 dollers per inch round about is what i was asken NOT that much in my book ...As far as the supply I would put $$$$ on the fact there are not 50 wild caught Kelberi in peoples tanks in the US that are in good condition or actually alive!!!! The rest ruined by poor care or dead.........So the price should not have dropped Like it seems to have right????

You are right bro. $20 per inch is a fair price by far. As for the azuls and kelberi price drop, $125 for a Azul and $125 for a kelberi. Maybe the price drop due to the fact they are not wc but in fact captive bred.
Wasn't wc kelberi's and Azul $250 a pop a couple years back?

Yes, it is really hard to find the OG wild caught kelberi's. I only know a hand full of people with wild Kels. And if wild kelberi were to come on the market again, I sure as hell would pay the asking price.

I remember those days to. Kelberis were always on my wish list. But I waited till the price dropped on them.
As with Xingu's to. I can honestly say that I'm glad that superlaz and Fugupuff brought them in. We all know the Xingu's are captive bred, but it is damn hard to get them wild. Back in the day the Xingus went for $1200-$1500 for a 15" Xingu. But now, I'm glad that they are only $250 and it seems like there is a steady supply of them coming in.
