WHATS THE LONGEST YOUVE WENT W/O WC?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
8 months on a 125, was told by my LFS that I only needed to wc once or twice a year. Boy was he wrong, lost my Chana. This was 16 years ago, now do weekly wc and at the very least every other and do a gravel vac with every change.

I haven't in 2 months. Just before that I put in a algae scrubber. My nitrates only read occasionally then disappear. That's better than when I did wc which was monthly. It doesn't matter for me, my stock is hardy as can be even though heavy bioloads, large turtles and brown carp.

My 3g nano (I'm not calling it a pico, you can't invent a term after the fact sw community!) is another story. That's weekly and is a breeze because it's a foot above the kitchen sink and RO faucet.

Three weeks on my 55 in the garage but I have to top off about 1.5" of tap water every week due to evaporation. No testing, 0 casualties.

2 weeks currently on my 55 piranha tank. Mother of the year right here.

back in the 60's, started with mostly live bearers in a 10G. I was told that changing water "shocked" fish, and I never did it.
My fish always died of ick & every other thing, despite ever-present medications.
I'd just clean tanks & start over.
not sure if the lfs people were as stupid as the advice they gave, or just wanted the medicine & fish sales!

It's not very equal comparing old timers to people who started off fishkeeping with good info, especially the ease of internet research.
;-)
In the mid 70's I started changing exactly 25% per week. was told to do "no more, and no less".
LOL. all I had was corner bubble filters. Never heard about vaccing gravel.
Ohh the memories.
bad ones.

I let my 1000 g tank go through 4 months without any WC!
