The members who start issues tend to have an issue letting go of their point and continue the behavior. The staff has limited resources to babysit a thread (most of us are logged in during the day form our jobs). If a thread goes south it gets locked. If a thread appears to be "civil" it is likely because it has already been cleaned up by the staff.

Come on most threads In the lounge have nothing to do with fish that's why they're posted in the lounge to begin with
And if your so opposed you don't have to throw In your two cents. Im all for talking about anything. There are a lot of people or there that have only thought about it from the viewpoint of their parents or the college professor and there is a whole other side. one that's not violent or criminal I grew up on a farm I've carried a gun since I was 5 started with bb guns then 22 caliber. I've never hurt anyone or any domestic animals. I used them to protect my families crops and livestock and to provide foods for my table. They ain't bad they have a whole lot to do with family and freedom and there ain't nothing wrong with that.

I think there are two types of gun threads...I don't mind if people discuss functionality of guns, which is better performing, stopping power etc

If I recall the thread that closed was talking about crime rates and gun ownership, which is highly political and against tos so it should be closed.

Unfortunately, there is a growing chasm between people who believe in science and those who believe in ideology.

Even more unfortunately, rejection of scientific evidence and science itself (in favor of ideological "views") on issues such as man's role in global warming, that people are born *** (i.e. it's not a choice)...or that evidence shows us that places that have more guns, tend to have more gun violence... have become synonymous with political identity.

Discussion - about guns or whatever else, including fish - are so much better when they are based on science, fact and evidence (and not conjecture, opinion and ideology).

Otherwise it's just people yelling.

I agree to a point but I've also seen science twisted to show a lot of stuff that isn't true.
Look at the science behind banning pythons or snakeheads our banning piranhas in colorado where they'd never survive.
The us is a violent county so any study on violence here and any weapon will look bad. I'll bet we have more unarmed assaults also. Science is only as valid as the scientist objectivity about the subject.

most threads in the lounge are also not about potentially deadly objects that are illegal to own in 95%+ of the countries where MFK members are posting from.
Guns for hunting, no problem, I keep shotguns myself.
AK47 full auto type weapons.....only good for one thing...killing people.
A hand gun is one thing, a basement full of assault weapons and ammo is another...
I am not anti-guns, I am very against illogical and anti-objective arguments that ignore or conflict with real data but fetishize guns (a fetish being an object of power)
Is there a shortage of gun forums?
