I think my zone here in Portland is like 8 or 9. Go to cobraplant.com, they are based in Oregon and have tons of info, pics and some awesome plants for sale. You can read all about keeping Venus fly traps outdoors, as well as growing a lot of other carnivores outdoors

I grow some kinda rare cacti. I have some Peruvian Torch hybrids, some Lithops "living rocks" ,I used to have a salvia divinorum, but let it go when they outlawed it.

I grew salvia divinorum too. I stopped growing mine when I realized that it doesn't really get you high, you have to buy the concentrate if you want that, even then it's pretty dumb. I do like how the plants grow square hollow stems though, makes them look wierd

Nooow we're getting somewhere. I grew brigesii's and San Pedros. The sally's I had to let go too unfortunatly but they did what they came to do so the "censorship" is too late :) - N

Ive been wanting to try carnivorous plants, I definately do not have a green thumb though.

Me too. I got venus fly trap seeds in high school and tried to grow them but failed miserably. My bonsai trees are a marvel to me cuz I definitely have a black thumb! lol

Growing plants is not hard you just have to understand the plant's needs. For carnivorous plants specifically you should only water with distilled or rainwater. Also their soil needs to be poor absolutely devoid of nutrients. They are adapted to live in poor acidic conditions. You have to buy specific growing medium for them such as sphagnum moss and perlite.

lol, for myself, I know better than to try to start with seeds, I have trouble growing algae from scratch. Actually I remember seeing a cool carnivorous plant starter kit at a craft store here recently. it came with a variety of carnivorous plant seeds, an enclosed plastic dome to grow them in, and instructions. I think it just required soil. It was in the kid project aisle. Ill end up with one eventually.

Do not buy those kits they are a waste of money. I suggest buying an already mature plant.
