Maybe.. But for now I'm more interested in RT and Ancient fish(Arowana's, Gars, Polypterus, Bowfins) and Datnoids lol.

Congrats on the spawn. You should post a thread :)

Size can be deceiving to a person. I have a 10" male right now that isn't even mature yet...

ZZ's mature rather quickly, 3 inch is more than big enough for them to start breeding. It don't matter if they faders or not. You can't just buy a female that has bred before and expect a random male to replace the one she bred with. It takes time and sometimes some pairs don't take. You just got these lol, it isn't always going to be an immediate match. You're in a rush.

I have a thread "hybrids" with all of my hybrids, well all of the ones that are current and keepers. I have fry to often to document them all, 3 fh clutches at this very moment.

Op as far as cost on your pair, I'd go by your original investment. At least try to recoupe, unless they were free. I personally don't think they have much value, but I'm spoiled :) I'm sure someone will apprieciate them.

I have only seen 1 pair of ZZ breeding at 3" with over hundreds of frys. But I have also seen and owned a good number of ZZ that doesn't even mature until a good 8-10 inches.
In terms of breeding a fish, just because you have a pair doesn't mean it will breed(these are not convicts...LOL). You must have them conditioned properly, and sometimes there are pairs that demands proper set up such as their surrounding, lighting(natural sun light and how it rise and sets), even the high protein food itself. I would keep that pair and do everything you can to get them going. That pair should be easy to breed since they can live together just fine. Most flowerhorn, not so much...

I've had them for a month and the female is more agressive than the male. The dug out a nest and everything but the females eggtube hasn't dropped. I was thinking of trying my younger 4" female with the male but now I am getting mixed answers on the gender of it. This is her/him.

I have 2 pairs @ that size with clutches at this moment, males 4" and female 3", one of the females a fader ,

Feed them heavy, I like freeze dried earthworms, don't change the water on the normal sch , wait a few days . Then 50% water change with cured matching temp and ph water , I do this and have eggs the next morning, if you don't change the water right you will stress them and get nothing.

If you don't want to vent, just put the new maybe female into a divided tank with your male , they will tell you its gender......If you know what to look for....I use one dominant horny male as a sexing tool, seems no ladies can refuse him.....and live

I'm definitely fine with venting. I just don't know what the best method is. Is it to take them out with a net and flip them over. Also, I let the 2 young ones together and watched. They flare up and the "female" circles him and the faded male just flares straight at here. Then the when head to head and tried lip lock and gave up. Then the female bit his tail or hit it and he went absolutely ballistic and shot around the tank so I separated them up.
